Rude CM's

This was supposed to be a thread about rude stuff that happened not defining rudeness or explaining rudeness or excusing rudeness, but rather for observations of rudeness by CMs. Maybe the reason that the rude behavior sticks out is that it's pretty rare and most CMs are fabulous at creating that magic feeling. Even the vast majority of guests are happy, well-intentioned people basking in the magic created by WDW, enjoying their vacation. I thought this thread was created for observations of rudeness, not for debating about determining for whom, when and where rudeness is acceptable.

Actual rudeness is never acceptable and that is why I chose to define it. It is my opinion that rudeness has been defined incorrectly and that many people are using the word to prove that they were completely innocent of doing anything that might have prompted someone to say something to them that they didn't want to hear. That's not rudeness that's entitlement on the part of the alleged receiver. I have also agreed with many of the posters that what happened to them was rude, just not all of them.

Hmmm

I have encountered the odd CM who has been a bit tactless or grumpy and some that did not give a hoot about my experience regarding pre booking a special meal in every restaurant that I ate in and never received.
I was even shouted at and told off severely once, but I deserved that one ;) as I had just exited my Mission space capsule and realised that I had left my bag so I turned around and went back in to retrieve it...ooops I wasn't in any danger as they were just starting to load the new guests but I could have been.... but even with a lot of bad experiences I can't say I have encountered out and out rude, well not from a CM anyway..

I have encountered many many very rude and self obsessed guests who think that the 'world' should revolve around them..
Now I know that the guests pay the Cms wages but it surely does not pay them to take downright rude obnoxious behaviour from the 'paying' guest. No one deserves to be treated the way I have seen some CMs treated.

maybe these rude CM moments have come just after being on the receiving end of a horrible guest and it was just bad timing..
or they are genuinly concerned for the guests safety (as in my case)

I really think some people have way way way too high expectations.

The only rudeness I have ever experienced in any of the parks is when AK was new. Those photographers that stand on the bridge to take your picture with the Tree in the backround. I had one guy ask me, I politely said no thanks. He then continued to follow me getting in my way and berating me to have my picture taken. I dont know if they got paid by the number of photos or what but he would not leave me alone. I finally told him to get out of my way or he and his camera were both going over the side of the bridge and into the water below. As we were leaving later that afternoon he was doing the same thing to another group so I took his picture got it developed and reported him to guest services the next day. Since that time I have not been hounded so im guessing I wasnt the only one to complain.

We have a 4yr old dd, and have not been comfortable with her riding on the WDW buses, or ME....so, we have always rented a car. On our last trip, we decided that she was probably old enough that she would be "reasonably" safe on the buses (in case of an accident). On the night that we arrived, we boarded a bus to DTD. We all boarded from the front, including my dh who was carrying our dd's stroller...no issues. When we boarded the bus to go back to BC that evening, my dh once again tried to board from the front of the bus. The CM nicely stepped up and asked all persons carrying strollers to please board from the rear, as there are fewer steps, and this policy allows buses to be boarded faster. We just assumed that we had done "wrong" when we got on the bus to DTD....it did seem to make so much sense to send those with strollers to the back.

Well, the next morning we went to board the bus to go to the MK, and dh went to the back of the bus to board, while my dd and I waited at the front. When my dh tried to get on the bus, the CM closed the door ON my dh and he fell off the bus onto the curb below. He then yelled at my dh, and continued to talk about how unbelievable people were with other guests during the ride. I was FURIOUS!!! True, the bus did say to board at the front, but so did the one the night before where he was asked to board at the back. I was SOOOO mad!!! I waited until everyone else had gotten off the bus, and then the CM and I had a little "talk". I explained our situation, and said that we were not trying to "cheat" anything....we thought we were following the rules. I told him how inappropriate it was for him to be making fun of my dh with other guests while we were on the bus, and let him know that if he did not get off the bus right away to apologize to my dh, that I would be going straight to customer service to speak about the incident. The CM felt really bad, and got off the bus to apologize to my dh (who was sitting on a bench tending to his busted knee). He told my dh how badly he felt, and admitted that sometimes rules are not consistent, and that it is hard to remember that sometimes guests just do not know. He asked if he could call paramedics for us, and we said "No, thanks." It actually ended very cordially, and my dh's knee only needed a band-aid, but that is the most upset I have been with a CM. Now, dh only boards from the front....even if he is asked to do otherwise.

:yay:

I love how you handled this. Probably stick in his mind better than reporting him to Guest Services. Glad you're husband's knee wasn't too messed up.

I've only had one bad run in, but it left me near tears :sad1:. It was our 25th wedding anniversary dinner, and we had made reservations at the California Grill. We were seated a little early, a very nice window view of the castle, about 45 minutes before the fireworks. The waitress came over, nice as could be, we asked about a few things, made out decisions and placed our orders. After the appetizers, just as the fireworks started, our entrees arrived. I was disappointed because the lights weren't dimmed and I couldn't hear the music above the din, so didn't really enjoy Wishes. But the order was wrong, and she had disappeared. As Wishes ended, we managed to wave her down, I said simply that is was not what I ordered, and she yanked it from me saying "I'm only human." and took off with it. I'm a very passive person, and we had not done anything that could have possibly provoked that kind of response. This was a dinner I wanted to be very special for DH and myself, and I'm ready to cry and he was furious :furious: . Finally, someone else brought my meal, correct this time, and apologized. She was very nice, but I saw the other CM a few times that evening, waiting on other guests, but not once did she come over and apologize for her behavior. The other CM said something about a bad day, but that is no excuse. When we left, we gave a cash tip to the second CM, and DH wrote a note on the receipt. It didn't ruin the rest of our trip, but it certainly wrecked a very nice 25th anniversary meal I had planned for. I'm very emotional, and I was fighting back the tears through a good part of the meal :sad1:
We were treated nicer at the Rose 'n Crowne later in the week, even tho it wasn't our anniversary dinner. They gave us primo seats, and the service was first class, and they all wished us a Happy Anniversary :) . It made up for that.
We won't be going back to California Grill again.

Other than that, the CM's were unfailing polite (except one at Germany DH took issue with, but I didn't see any problem). They were always smiling, joking around and ready to help. Except for one bad apple, I was very impressed with the level of customer service I received there :goodvibes .

I've encountered tired CMs who are only human, but never an out and out rude one.

However, I have encountered superhuman CMs who remain calm in the face of unbelievable rudeness.
I was there earlier this year for work (I work for a newspaper) and came across the greatest example of professionalism I've seen.

My hat's off to all CMs. (All most.) :bitelip:

While my overall experience with CMs has been great, I did encounter some who were extremely rude/goofy on HM in WDW back in 2004. They were the CMs who were supposed to walk around the perimeter of the pre-show or "stretching" room. Well, these girls (they were pretty young - even from a 19 yo's perspective) proceeded to run around the room screaming something about "teacups." No one could hear the pre-show including my then fiance (DH since December!) who had never even ridden HM before. It didn't effect the rest of the ride, or even the rest of the trip, but those CMs (at the HM) are usually the best. Also, their "grim" attitudes are half of the fun on that ride.

Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Can you report things like that?

I can't believe the Yankees fan threatened to sue...what an idiot. I would've told him to go ahead and sue so I could see him get laughed out of the courtroom. :rotfl:

The only rude (albeit former) CM I've ever encountered was here on this forum. (you know who you are... :rolleyes1 )

Lets see if I can calculate all this.

OP makes a thread about Rude CMs
+
CM talks about stupid guest.
=
Pot calling the kettle black.

I mean let it go people. Sometimes you are going to run into a CM that is not very kind. Sometimes CMs are going to run into guest that are not very kind also. Just don't let that person ruin your day. It is worth it having all that stress? Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. If it happens to you just move on and enjoy the rest of your day.

P.S. IMO I think this thread has run it course, and its time to shut it down. :thumbsup2

How Rude!!!

Warning: the above statement was just a joke. Speaking for those hastled CM's please do not report me to Guest Relations because unlike yourself, with income that can be spent on vacations, I have a family to support on the meager salary I get here. I have also developed the habit of eating and I need the income to buy food. Also, please don't sue because that will be an exercise in futility...I got nothin' to get. Good luck with that. And take note that the world, Disney or otherwise, does not revolve around you and your petty complaints. Buck up, people are dying in other nations...you can't get a room with a view. Seems small doesn't it?

Sub Warning: If this doesn't close down this self serving thread, nothing will. Have a magical day. For those of you that can put petty human frailties aside and go on without a melt down, have a really magical day. You will see me walking around WDW with a smile and, in all probability, a Mickey Bar in my hand. I know how short and unpredictable life can be and I will not be influenced by the actions of a few.

Thanks for posting the link--great stories that show what most CMs are like (and what a lot of us guests are like, too.) Bless the CMs who maintain our magic! And while I agree that CMs have a lot to be cranky about, I guess I'd just rather not hear their complaints, just as a parent would rather not hear a teacher complain about the kids. (I know--I was a teacher and am now a parent.) That's what the teacher's lounge is for! :sunny:
And to be a fly on the wall in the CM's lounge...just for a minute...okay, maybe not!

As a small side note, "What time is the 3 o'clock parade?" is not really a "stupid" question as it depends where you are sitting/standing when the parade will actually get to you, at 3 or really at 3:20.

Tell me you are kidding. PLEASE tell me you are kidding...If not...:lmao:

It does NOT matter WHERE you are...a 3'clock parade starts at guess what...3 O'clock! And you darn better already have a place to watch it from at least an hour before or you won't see the 3PM parade at 3PM or at :lmao: 3:20PM!!! :lmao: :lmao:
