Rude CM's

I don't think that I've ever encountered a rude CM, but if I do, I'll quickly whip out my camera and ask someone to snap a picture of me with Grumpy!! :thumbsup2
Too funny!! :rotfl2:

If ECV batteries are anything like other batteries, using them on half a charge really screws up the battery. It might not charge fully the next time, and the person renting it will be SooL. The CM was probably told to never let a nonfully charged ECV be rented.

Nope, policy is that they can let half-charged ECV's go as long as there's no chance they will run out of juice before the park closes . . . . I'm sure they wouldn't let one go with half juice if it was noon and the park didn't close until 3 AM. If they didn't once they were all gone in the morning it would mean that there would not be any more available all day because they'd all be charging.

I wish I were. The local Arby's here has hired several ex prisoner's who seem to think the world owes them something. My EMS partner is also a police officer and he brought it to my attention.

I've never had a rude CM. Not sure how I would react if I did. Even still, there is no reason for them to act the way they do. If they are having a bad day, they need to stay home.

Excuse me, but in defense to these CMs, here's a little food for thought.

I worked at Splash Mountain for my college program for 4 months. And during those 4 months I really feel like I lost some of my brains. For example, how can a father not know how many are in his party? How can a party of 5 magically transform into a party of 3? Also, when you are in line and a CM asks "how many?" we DO NOT mean how many YOU want to sit in a row. If there are 4 of you, say 4! Otherwise, especially if you are at Load 2 at Splash (which is the first CM you'll see coming out of the tunnel), you may get separated due to the fact that parties of 2 are fillers for large party logs!

Also... Most Guests do NOT read signs. For example, at the End of Line position, which is like the greeter, there are signs all around. So why on earth do I have to tell people where you get the FastPasses (which, by the way, are right behind me) over and over again? Especially if someone asks that question, I answer it, and another guest asks the same question who was right behind the first person.

And in response to the person who said about the CM "yelling" at the lap-sitting ... There is hardly ANY lap sitting allowed. That can pose a MAJOR safety hazard. When there is lap sitting at Splash and I was in Tower I'd get to go over the PA system and tell parents that lap sitting is not permitted. And usually, the parents would have no idea I was talking to them and then we'd get the managers there to scold them at the end. This is your safety, people.

For the poster who said something about more rude CMs at MK than anyplace else... Think about this. MK has the longest park hours. Usually during busy times CMs are on mandatory 6 day work weeks. You usually work 5 at your job back in reality. We are there to bend over backwards for our guests andyet they can't help us out and read a few signs or get a park map. During Easter weeks I was scheduled for over 70 hours! My shortest day in two weeks was 10 1/2 hours and my longest was 14. I was averaging 12 hours a day! Now you try staying at Splash Mountain dealing with the same questions over and over again and explaining to guests where Row 1 is and I guarantee you'll get a little bit aggravated, too.

So next time, if something goes wrong and a CM gets a bit cranky, cut us some slack. Geez. We cut ya'll enough slack!

By the way, this message was not degrading any of you's here, just giving ya'll food for thought. This is what CMs put up with all day every day for usually 6 days a week for CRAP pay.

A few years ago on Christmas Day my family & I went to the TTC because there was something there I needed that was sold there or the Magic Kingdom & since my family & I were leaving WDW the next day the TTC was the best place to go. Anyway we go back to the Monorail entrance & the Cast Member screems right in front of our faces where do you think your going, the Magic Kingdom is closed. We told him we are guests at the Contemporary & were trying to go back there, then we even showed him our Resort ID. Well he said I don't care if you want to go back talk to the CM standing over there. We did & told her the same thing & she said no problem go right threw. That is the only time we have had contact with a very rude Cast Member.

I'm the one who said I have seen more rude CM's at the MK than any of the other parks. I worked in the theme park and public entertainment industry for several years, and you can toss in another 10 years of customer service there; believe me, I know every stupid thing a guest or customer can do, from having beer bottles thrown at my head to the ride you're working being set on fire, or people trying to poison the animals in the park. Regardless, there is no excuse for CM's to be rude to the people who do not deserve it, or injure the park animals in retaliation. I will completely excuse any rudeness I see against people who DO deserve it, but if a CM cannot separate the people who do from the people who don't they should not be in the industry. Low pay, hot weather, etc. do not factor into it, because they knew full well what the terms were when they accepted the job. or let me rephrase that, it is a shame they do not offer more because it would then attract the quality of employee that more and more sounds like is lacking in the MK and they could get rid of those who do not meet standards.

During the 25th Birthday party in the MK at WDW.

DH & I were standing in front of the Castle Cake. DH mentions to ME, "I cant believe they covered Walt's window." Now he did not complain, he wasn't talking to anyone else. He was merely making a comment to his wife.

A CM walking behind us said in a very snotty voice "Well Duh! He is dead!"

DH turns around & gives out the most gut wrenching "HE IS?". He then proceeded to go down on the floor mock crying. He looked up with this pathetic face saying "When did he die? When is the funeral? Why didn't anyone tell MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?"

My DH is quite the actor. You must picture it. My DH is almost 7 feet tall, and a BIG guy. So this very large man is now on the floor crying because he did not know Walt Disney had died. It was quite a sight.

The CM had the most horrified look on his face. He had no idea what to do. He kind of let out this stammering, I guess he was trying to figure out what to say.

DH then stands up, perfectly fine & says "Maybe you shouldn't make comments on other peoples' conversations. And remember you are a Disney CM, so stop being so rude to the guests."

The CM was white as a ghost & just stood there, mouth gaping. He meekly said some sorty of apology. But his look of absolute horror was the apology.

We weren't trying to "get" the CM. We weren't even talking to him. But he butt his nose into our conversation with a rude comment. And DH just showed him you should mind your own business.

I wonder if that CM ever forgot my DH on the ground "crying". And I wonder if he ever stuck his nose in someone else's conversations again.

My sentiments exactly! No one is making the rude CMs work there. They chose to do that themselves.

The only problem we have EVER had w/ a CM was one younger girl who worked the HM, but had come further into Liberty Square to work the parade. We were crossing before the parade...obviously hurrying...and she decided it was time to close the 'crossing section' and slapped the rope down right in front of us. Well, the problem was, sis and dd who were mere steps ahead of us, made it through and she closed it right in front of me, DH and mother and wouldn't hear of us running across to catch the rest of our party who didn't know we'd been stopped. Wouldn't have bothered us had she not been outright RUDE to us. Well, needless to say, the most dangerous place on Earth is in between a mother and her child and she was in the way of 2 mothers and 2 children....not surprisingly, we made it to the other side. :confused3

I actually can't go to our Arby's anymore because a "shift manager" started saying rude things about me wanting my wrap without bacon or tomato in Spanish, assuming I didn't speak Spanish because I'm not hispanic and I'm blond. At the time, I was working in the courts as a Spanish/English court interpreter. So I busted her on her comments responding in Spanish then called corporate office. I'm afraid if I go back she may spit in my food. :lmao: All the CMs we've seen - from the sweeper lady who walked us to Donald's, to the exec in a suit who gave my son a limited edition CM lanyard pin without a trade, to the bell services girl who gave my daughter a ride around the POR parking lot because she was sad we were leaving - have been beyond polite and have been downright sweet and very Disney like (I hope I didn't just jinx our August trip).

Um, not to start a fight here, but I used to work in college at a local restaurant for $5.25 an hour and my job sucked. However, if I EVER acted like some of the CMs in these accounts did to one of my customers, I would not be given slack. I would be shown the door instead. Customer service is customer service. Disney has never been the only employer on the planet, kwim? What some of these accounts detail is not simply a CM "being a bit cranky."

As for most of the other instances you named, the PPs ASKED THE CM in charge at the time if they were doing the right thing and were told they were. They didn't just take it upon themselves to do what they pleased.

I have not had any problems with any CMs at WDW. They have always been so nice actually.

So, in other words, you're simply saying CMs are people too?

With a few, rare exceptions - including at least one posted above, I don't believe there are rude CMs. I think there are people who have a bad day; and to the best of my knowledge, "Boss, I won't be in today - I'm in a bad mood" is NOT an acceptable excuse for taking the day off. I'm not saying the CMs are right or the posters here are wrong, just that we're ALL human first.

Actually it sounds more to me like most of the posts involved people (CM's) that either didn't know the rules or were somewhat overzealous in enforcing them.

Nothing is more frustrating to a worker than to follow the rules handed out and then be made to look like a bad person because someone else decided not to follow the rules just to make themselves look good. The guy that didn't follow the rules looks like a saint and the other one appears to be rude. Most rules are made to prevent confusion and maintain order and safety with a large group of people.

I don't even think people know the definition of rude anymore. It is used to describe anyone that doesn't agree with them. Some of the things mentioned were rude but, in my perspective, most were not.

Some also need to learn people skills. My experience has shown me that most people do not realize how they are coming across.

It still never stops amazing me how people can, for example, duck under a rope barrier and then get all upset when a CM tells them to stay put. Why do those people think that the barrier was put there for everyone else except them. These people put themselves in danger and have more arrogance than I can even imagine. But the CM is being rude. Waa..waa...waa!

Our only really bad experience was on one of the busses. We had a really big stroller at the time. We didn't realize just how big it was until we tried taking it on the busses. Well, it was easier for us (and others) if DH just carried it on through the back doors of the bus. Well, I kept asking the drivers if it was o.k. if DH did that and they all had said yes. Well, DH boarded once before I had asked and the driver actually yelled at him over the speaker. Then after we had drove a ways he got back on the speaker and continued to make comments to us. We were so embarrassed. We only were trying not to cause problems, we didn't mean to cause a problem. All he had to do was explain to us calmly and politely why he didn't want us to board the back or not to do it again. We would have been fine with that. He was totally out of line with what he did.

There are a few rude CM's- not many - but with so many people, they're not all going to be up to par. I can remember when I was a CM, there was one particular woman who got angry with anyone who had conversations with the guests. She never spoke to anyone, Never smiled. Only did exactly what needed to be done. I've seen her pretend she didn't hear guests when they asked her to take a picture of them! (And yes, she had pretty good hearing the rest of the 4 months I knew her)

I mean, if I a guest asked where we were from, or which restaurants were good, or anything like that and we had more than a one sentence response, she'd shoot us dirty looks.

One night, we were cleaning, and a fellow CM and I had brought three bags of trash out when we met up with an elderly couple who asked me some questions about working in Disney, etc. we answered their questions, we talked for maybe 5 minutes or so, asked if they were enjoying the show, their vacation etc. and said goodnight and we went back to cleaning. This other CM apparently reported us to the manager!

I only found out because another CM friend of ours overheard our manager telling her "Lulu" and "So and So" were helping out a guest, not talking to friends of theirs. That is what we're here for. Every once in awhile, it's a good thing to do, even if it takes an extra 5 minutes to clean." That manager never knew it, but I really appreciated what he said to her. It definitely made me more confident in my own abilities, instincts and judgment.

Anyway, my post was way too positive. We're supposed to be talking abot rude CM's. My point was- yes, they do exist. Few and far between, but with of course they are out there.

Anyone ever encounter anything like this. I will preface this by saying it occured at Disneyland. We were going on the Alice in Wonderland ride. We have a 2 year old daughter who still gets a little scared on some of these rides. As we boarded the ride she immediately climbed in my wife's lap. My wife asked the CM who was attending the boarding area if that was OK and she said it was no problem as long as she was towards the inside of the car and facing forward. As we were exiting the ride (my daughter still in the same position), the CM running the un-boarding area starting waving his arms and yelling at us saying all children must be seated or he would have to stop the ride. As we exited the car he actually berated us in front of all these people standing in the line. It was to say the least humiliating. we told him that the CM at the beginning OK'ed this but he would hear nothing of it and told us next time we would be asked to leave the park. We reported him to Guest Services and they immediately knew who we were talking about and apologized but that did nothing to ease the sting of the embarassment we felt. Anyone else ever have anything like this occur and how did you handle it.

You know what's funny? We had an experience years back with a rude older CM man at the Alice in Wonderland ride in Disneyland, too! I wonder if it's the same person?

He thought I was going to move too close to the ride while we waited to load because he saw me hurrying up, but I had all the intention to stop at the appropriate distance and I did stop. But he berated me saying I was intending to go forward (I guess he had the uncanny power to read my mind and motives :rolleyes1 ), and when I denied it, he continued to berate me, in effect saying he didn't believe me.

You know, it's all in the approach. First of all, he cannot read minds and insist that he knows people's evil intentions before they do it. Secondly, if he wanted to say something to a guest, he could have said it in a gentler, more professional manner. Not in a rude, scolding, condescending manner. Where is the professionalism?

hi
the most rude and nastiest c.m/kodak photographer, (not sure who photographers are emloyed by), was the one who on hearing we were british and from nr london said "you won't be so smug about terrorist bombing now, wiil you"?. it was this time last year just after the london bombings. i was so stunned and shocked that i didn't do anything about it. i'm sure no brit was ever smug about your truly awful and sad terrorist attacks.

Susan - you have won the prize for the worst story! I can't believe someone said that to you! I would have reported that person. So sorry that happened to you. :sad2:

I'm sorry someone would say something so awful to you. That was horribly out of line, but I can understand you being too surprised to report it.

As for rude CMs, I've never really encountered any. There have been some that certainly weren't terribly friendly, but none that were out-and-out rude.
