If she's not allowed to get out of the car, how does she get into the park?

Just a guess here but I suspect that she had her car doors open and was casually (ever so slowly) taking things out of the car while another car was waiting to park next to her. I have seen that many times at Disney....it is amazing to me just how unaware or inconsiderate (take your choice) people are.

Cinderella ,I wasn't critizing the CM . Just saying that everyone has bad days and we should cut them some slack.I personally couldn't do the CMs job. I dont have the patience,

eleanor- I'm so sorry! I totally agree; the sheer amount of guests that they have to deal with is staggering. It's very difficult to work with the public, especially when people have such high standards for CMs (which is due to Disney's own publicity). Everyone can have a bad day, but it seems much worse when a guest experiences a CM having a bad day, than if it occurred at the mall.

Phrank, kudos to you for turning this unpleasant encounter into inside joke with your DW! That's making lemonade out of a lemon!

We've encountered rude/incompetent CMs on all 6 trips to WDW this year. They are in the minority. We've also encountered wonderful, go-the-extra-mile CMs everytime as well. The vast majority fall somewhere in between. With the huge number of people employed by WDW, you're going to hit a few bad apples, no matter how much screening/training they go through. And, as others have mentioned, even the best of them will lose it, every once in a while.

My wife and I used to kid about sending a cast member to the far reaches of the parking lot to direct traffic if he or she messed up. However, after taking the MK behind the scenes tour the parking lot attendant may have it pretty good. Don't know if a cast member or outside employee does this but from the trash in the Parks someone looks for anything which can be recycled and pulls it out. Tough call- 100 degree heat on parking lot asphalt or looking for plastic bottles among 20,000 discarded lunches.

Just FYI, if you have a problem with a CM at one of the parks feel free to go to Guest Relations to fill out a report. On that SAME note, please do the SAME for all of the wonderful CMs that are doing a WONDERFUL job. Guest Complaints come readily but Guest Compliments are few and far between.

Next time you are at WDW and someone gives you GREAT customer service please take a moment to write it down on a Guest Compliment form at Guest Relations.

Positive Reinforcement works WONDERS in keeping a CM's attitude happy. :hyper:

IMHO In all aspects of life including WDW, I try and focus my energy on those who are great and disregard the others.

Then to be consistent it's probably best to focus that energy on another thread.:D

I agree with what some of the other people on this thread have said. Everybody has a bad day. I've seen CMs who were obviously unhappy about something. But I've never actually seen one who was overtly rude. I like to strike up conversations with them whenever the chance arises and they are almost always are friendly. I was raised to be polite to people, I'm sure all of you were too. When you carry a smile and speak nicely to someone it's hard for them to be rude. I know, this has nothing to do with a CM yelling at people in the parking lot. It's just an observation.

Many years ago I accidentally threw my driver's license away at the Mk. It's a long story. But I threw it away along with an empty cigarette pack into a bathroom trash can. I didn't realize it until I left the park, duhh! To my amazement I received my license in the mail a few weeks later. I wrote a thank you note but I always wondered who would have been digging through the trash to find it? And why? Maybe this explains it.

I love Disney more than anything....We go 2-4 times a year always for at least a week and have always had the most perfect times! I do remember 1 incident that made me so mad....we were hanging on Main St waiting for Fantasy in the Sky...and there was NO place to sit (you guys know how it is) so my DH and I just leaned against the wall by the Candy store and this CM yelled YOU CANT LEAN THERE! WELL, I who work and serve the public know that it is easy to lose it on someone because people dont like to listen or cooperate and can be very rude (saw someone curse off and physically threaten the host at the HM last week) SO I just moved and said nothing.....they ended up cancelling the fireworks because of a lightning storm coming and she did come and apologize.....but it did kinda kill my buzz.

A little reminder of the DIS Guidlines folks before this thread goes any further.

I was shoved by a CM in the MK the day before my wedding. Bride ears and all, the guy shoved me. It was crowded on Main Street since the afternoon parade had just finished. He was helping a person in an ECV navigate through the masses. Why he didn't just take it into the street and not down the sidewalk is beyond me, but we were all doing our best to get out of the way. I could hear this fool yelling at everyone and I was just about to step to the left to make room when the CM yelled at me "You have to get out of the way!" and shoved me. I just stood there while the other people moved behind me and the ECV (which was stopped, by the way, so nobody was in physical danger) started up again and kept moving.

I could not let this go. Even if it wasn't the day before my wedding, 16 days after I closed on my house and 10 days after I took the Bar Exam (I was a tad stressed out), I wouldn't have let it go. I spun right around and trailed the CM and, once the person in the ECV was settled, I confronted him. I told him he had no right to shove me and that I deserved an apology. He said he was "freaked out" by the crowds and HAD to get this person though - to where? Crystal Palace - heaven's forbid someone is 5 seconds late for a PS. Like CP wouldn't have understood that a person in an ECV was 5 seconds late when the parade just ended. It wasn't a good excuse, he refused to apologize for pushing me saying it was a justified means of "crowd control" and I went right to City Hall to tell them what happened. Part of my reason for confronting the guy was because I needed a good look at his name tag. It all happened so fast, I couldn't see it and I wasn't about to go in there and say that some guy with brown hair shoved me.

They were very nice, gave me and my guests some Fastpasses and we went on with our day. No permanent damage done. But, someday, that CM is going to shove the wrong person and Disney is going to get into some trouble. I guess he lucked out and shoved the right person when he got freaked out!

I normally have great experiences with the CMs...but since this is about the occasional rude one...
I went to MGM a couple weekends ago with my friend. We stopped in at the Drive in Theater to check on the wait time. There was this girl CM (a hostess) who was like, Laying over the hostess stand. She didn't look tired...she looked totally bored. There were two of them there and they were gabbing (which is fine). We walked up and the one laying across the hostess stand kind of lifts her head and just looks at us. I was a bit put off by this. I was a hostess at a "normal" restaurant and I certainly knew better than to do that!! Whether I was tired, bored, etc!

Ok - so from your point of view most CM's were friendly but you chose to write about the one who was not? Or have I missed the posts about all the great CM's?
Human nature. How many times do you come home from grocery shopping and say to someone, "I had the best shopping experience today! The cashier was efficient and the bag boy did his job well and even the lady at the deli counter was nice." However, if the cashier was snippy or the bag boy dropped the melon on the bread or the lady at the deli counter ignorned you, THAT's the thing you remember when someone asks you, "What do you think of XYZ Market?"

There are many many posts on this board about great CMs -- so yes, perhaps you DID miss them. There is almost always at least one topic titled something like "What's the nicest thing a CM did for you?" or "How to compliment a CM" or something similar. And there are far more hits on those sites than on the "I met a rude CM at Disney" sites. Most of the people who come across the rare rude or nasty person at WDW is putting that info here more to vent than to suggest that people should be disciplined or fired. And more than a few folks post because they are truly surprised to have met someone who didn't have the Disney magic that day.

Well excuse me.. are you a moderator now and if so am I or am I not allowed to "focus my energy" on any thread I choose???
No ... I think the person who responded to you was simply saying that if your intent (as you stated) is to focus your energy only on positive people, then going to a thread that is obviously negative kind of contradicts your message.

We had over 15 vacations at Disney before we encountered a rude CM - which is really a great feather in Disney's cap!!!

This spring we were at the pizza place in MK watching Wishes. After it was over, everyone had just left their chairs pulled up to the edge and a very pissed off girl angrily had to put them all back, scrapping each one loudly on the floor. A family from England asked her nicely to do it a little more quietly and she preceded to argue with them over how much work she had to do. Then a lady came by with a sleeping baby in a stroller, and she walked alongside of the stroller pulling a chair. When the lady told her "shhh" she began to argue with the lady. At that point the family from England went to complain to her supervisor.

The next night we went back to the pizza pavilion, as my granddaughter likes to watch Tink fly towards her, and there was a small group of 6-7 people gathered around - guess who - . A couple of the people appeared to be management, and I heard one man who seemed to be a guest say to this girl, "I think you'd better be quiet before you lose your job." Needless to say - a different CM put back the chairs that night. I bet that's one employee who didn't last out her first week! ;)
