Rude Behavior in Theaters

Two friends and I went to see "Lord of the Dance" last night. Tickets weren't outrageous, but still $45 and we had loge seats (so had a side view). I couldn't believe the number of people who arrived late! It was an 8:00 PM show so I don't think work hours is an excuse.

A group of 3 arrived during the 2nd number at sat next to us. During the 4th number another group arrived and determined that the first group had taken their seats. So they finally straightened it out with many ushers, flashlights, etc. Then the woman next to me leans across me to talk to the woman in front of me - I couldn't even see the stage because she totally blocked my view! When I said something to her she just kind of blew me off, but did eventually sit back!

The woman in front of my friend had her cell phone out and spent the first half of the show text messaging! In a dark theater the light from the cell phone is very distracting. The ushers had to speak to a man who was so into the clapping because he was doing it wildly and hitting people around him (now I do understand that there may be extenuating circumstances here) but it was still disruptive!

Sorry - just had to vent!! I can't believe how rude and inconsiderate people were! And for Pete's sake arrive early or at least on time for a show!!! BTW the show itself was fantastic!

I'm sorry your experience was disrupted like that.

I just don't get some people in situations such as the theater or shows. How hard is it to understand that you don't have to talk, you don't have to use your cell phone, you don't have to get up and down half a dozen times? How hard is it to just sit still??? We expect kids to sit still for 6 hours a day in school, but adults can't sit still for two lousy hours in a theater?

Sadly, I actually feel like I have to spend 30 minutes instructing my class on how to behave when they go to the theatre....

Sit quietly after the lights go off - no talking
Cell phones off
no leaving in the middle unless you have an emergency
Don't walk out during the curtain call - it is polite to applaud
Don't leave trash behind
Show up on time....which is 10 minutes before the show begins


Well - what's so sad??? I teach college students!

Been there, experienced that!

I went to see The Eagles last concert (can't post the name of it here) and we were in the nose-bleeds.

There was a woman on the very last row who talked and giggled throughout the whole concert. I was getting so ticked off, when a woman a few rows in front of me stood up, turned around, hands on her hips and knew "it" was fixing to hit the fan. She was thisclose to saying something to that other woman.

I stood up with her and told her I'd go with her to get an usher. The usher never did arrive, but I think "rude woman" finally got the hint, because we never heard her again.

I never will understand why some people think they're entitled to do whatever the heck they please in places like that. The cell phone users in movies are just as bad.

The only thing you have to worry about my DH doing in a theater is snoring. The lights go down, he's seated comfortably, his eyes close... he's history. It really has to be an exceptional show for him NOT to fall asleep.

Lord of the Dance was exceptional... he remembers being awake for that one.

I can relate, we saw Lion King in Indianapolis about 2 years ago.

There was a group of peopl - grandparents, kids, spouses, grandkids in front of us. There was a squirmy 4-YO, who was enjoying the show, so - you try to tolerate that. In the last 15 minutes of the show, the boys mom started looking for something. She was looking in the seats, around the seats, under, behind etc. She was in such a panic, I honestly thought she was looking for a wedding ring - she was in that much of a panic.

We were able to rest well that night, at the end of the show, she found what she was looking for. A BOTTLE OF WATER.

This reminds me of our last WDW trip. I couldn't believe how many people were on their cell phones during shows (american adventure, narnia, littlest mermaid.) I mean talking not just texting. I don't think I ever noticed it so much before.

I mean, it's not Broadway, but still, how rude.

Most broadway shows will not seat latecomers until intermission I recently went to see Billy Joel and there was a group of 6 people next to us who were soooo drunk, being so obnoxious and smoking pot . I was getting really annoyed(b/c they didn't offer me any jk!) but about 15 minutes into the show, 1 of them started throwing up so they all left BTW, they were not kids-they were all intheir late 20's

tell me about it - we saw "Peter Pan" with Cathy Rigby recently. Behind us a large group held a discussion through one of my favorite songs. And, to top it off - the couple (well in their 40's - so they should have known better) in front of us seriously needed to get a room. Apparently, they saw nothing wrong with making out in front of my nine year old DD. Why would someone pay that kind of money to miss most of the show - doing something they can and should do at home!?

Are people getting more rude - or am I getting too sensitive?!
