As someone else said, there is a book that teaches how to solve it in a certain number of steps. it's basically: "spin the first row 2 times forward , then spin the third row back 3 times, then spin the 2nd row to the left once, etc..."
So it really has nothing to do with visualization if you have the steps memorized. The colors of the cube will ALWAYS line up, no matter what, since it has more to do with the direction & amount of spins than where the colors are to start with.
Note that in blindfold solving, the guy first looks at the cube with the blindfold off - memorizes the position of the blocks - the puts the blindfold on and solves it from memory.
