Just back from a great stay at RPR. I have stayed at HRH about 5 times and PB twice. We wanted to try the RPR for the first time and booked at a rate of $215. We have always loved the HRH and since it was basically the same price, $234, I was seriously considering playing it safe and switching to the HRH up until the last minute. PB is very nice but holds no interest to us because of the location.

We loved RPR and this is now our favorite hotel at Universal. I don't know why people have any kind of issue with it unless the quality of the rooms vary greatly. We were in 1733 and it was awesome. Fantastic view, very quiet and the stairway down to the path to the parks right out your door.
The last time I was at the HRH the stairway could be used to get back into the hotel. I don't know if this changed but at the RPR you could not get in, only out the stairway.

People say the RPR rooms are not 4 star. Maybe, but no doubt at least 3.5/3.75 star quality. Plus I believe the star rating is for the resort as a whole. Given the ammenities I would the rate the RPR 4 stars without question. Again we loved the HRH but I felt the service was far better at RPR. Everyone was very nice, friendly and seemed willing to do anything to offer assistance. The service around the pool was always available and friendly. I have not been able to say that about the HRH.

We loved this pool area much more than the HRH and PB. Again I don't know if they do this at all the hotels now but the fresh fruit, froven ice and cold towels brought around every hour was a great touch. The organized kid activities every hour were something my kids really looked forward to. The volley ball net in the pool with beach balls was always in use and a great hang out place. Lots of noodles provide by the hotel for floating around on.
The dive in movies were great and seemed like a better set up than at the HRH.

We enjoyed most of the dining options. Room service was great. The pool side food was good and the service really stood out. The sushi bar in the lobby was great but we didn't discover it until the last night. It is a beautiful room overlooking the pool and has great furnishings. The kids menu is from the Islands restaurant and very reasonable. I thought the sushi was very good. The take out breakfast was served in this area in the mornings and satisfied my kids for a quick grab and go. We had a bad experience with the service at Jake's but the food was decent. The pizza from Jake's is good and we got it as takeout to bring to the pool some nights.

I used the excerise facility every morning and thought it was very nice.
It had enough weight equipment to get by and the usual cardio machines.

The walk to the IOA seemed a little longer than from HRH but that might not actually be so. The walk to US was obvioulsy longer than from the HRH. It
was still a very easy walk to both parks. We used the bike transport quite a bit even though I wasn't going to. They always seemed to be right there when we needed them. As long as I thought of it as just another $5 or so rather than what I must have spent the whole trip it didn't seem that bad.

All the little things really added up to a big plus for us. Keep in mind this
is coming from some one with three kids ages 9 - 16. If you can get a rate of
under $200 then I feel staying here is an absolute no brainer. I felt like I got a bargain at $215. The rates you sometimes see of around $150 would be like stealing.

That's all I can think of now but I think we used most of everything the RPR has to offer. So if you think of any questions let me know.

Glad you enjoyed it. This is our favorite resort and always stay there even when going to Disney.:thumbsup2

This is our fav resort , although never stayed at HRH.
Glad you had a great time there

We'll be there in August. Love reading these kind of reports. What was the view from your room? Got any photos you can share?

If I post a picture of the view I'll never be able to book this room again.

sorry if this is a silly question but in the first post it mentioned fruit, frozen ice and cold towels...is this for club members or for all guests and was there a cost?

This was around the pool for everyone. I think it was every hour they would bring around a skewer of fruit or frozen ice and chilled towels for free. It was a very nice touch and had nothing to do with club level. Also around 3pm in the lobby, by where you check in, there was really good juice offered for free.
When the dive in movies where moved into the lobby due to lightning, happens a lot in the summer, there was free popcorn. All the freebies were a nice touch and helped set a great mood.

My family just returned from RPR as well. We were there from 6\11 - 6\18 club level. We also thought the complementary "extras" were such a nice touch. When at the pool, we were offered, italian ice, slushie samples, fruit on skewers and cucumbers. They had people walking around offering dry towels if they noticed your towel was wet. When I would show my room key to get my towels, they would offer to set up my chair for me. (They would use two towels to cover the chair and use one to make a pillow) There was also someone walking around with a can of spray sunscreen. She noticed the lady sitting by the pool was getting a little pink on her back and offered to spray her. Also in the lobby (I think around 4 or so) they would hand out free popcicles. Again, none of these extras had anything to do with club level (which was amazing by the way). They just did it. As you can tell we were extremely please with our stay there. :thumbsup2
