I found a lot of glowing online reviews and blog posts for the Royal Tea, but all for girls. Has anyone done it with a boy? We will be on the Disney Dream. My sons LOVE the princesses and we always do a ton of princess dinners and meet and greets at Disney World, but it looks like the included "gifts" (if you can call them that with a $200 price tag) are much less "royal" for boys and I worry they will feel like second-class citizens next to all the girls with their tiaras, necklaces and Cinderella dolls.

For reference, here are the descriptions of the gifts from the Disney Cruise website (Duffy the bear? What is princess-y about that)?
  • Gifts for Girls
Jewelry box, link bracelet, necklace with charms, a Cinderella doll, autograph book with pen and tiara
  • Gifts for Boys
Royal Court cinch bag, sword and shield, pins, autograph book and Duffy the Disney Bear plus
PS - first post and first cruise! We are so excited!!!

We have done the tea, but there weren't any little boys at the one we attended. That said, I have no doubt that if Disney offers it to boys that they will have comparable experience including gifts. My daughter got a pin instead of a charm because it was her bday and it was one of the more expensive pins in the gift shop.

Could you bring your own "gifts" for the boys so that they don't feel out of place? For example, some crowns, capes / cloaks and maybe royal sceptres?

As an aside, Duffy is pretty adorable! But, I may be bias from all of my visits to Tokyo Disney where he has major star power.

My daughter like the princesses ok but doesn't like dolls, and I've still been thinking about doing this experience myself and asking for the bear instead.
It does seem like the value of the Royal Tea gifts is not as good since the doll probably costs more than the bear. That being said the Royal Tea is pricey either way. I see it as being about the total experience, not just the gifts. If you think your son would enjoy it, I would just do it.

My 9 year old would have loved this up until he was probably 7, and DUFFY would be a BONUS for him! But he loves stuffed animals :)
If he loves Princesses, and you feel he would enjoy it, I wouldn't worry about anything else. Is the price different for girls/boys like a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique?
The Royal Tea is an experience, the "gifts" are just a "thank you for coming" type thing to me.

We haven't done the Royal Tea, but I took my DS to every princess thing in WDW when he was younger including BBB where he did the knights package. He LOVED his sword and shield and Duffy is ADORABLE!!! (If you don't know who he is, google him to see pictures. He is freaking CUTE!) I would totally do it with boys who are into the princesses! The swag sounds pretty darn good to me!

Thanks, everyone!! I hadn’t thought about BBB but I am thinking now we might do the BBB knight package and princess meet and greet—it is much less expensive than the tea, and would take up less time. I feel a lot better now about the Royal Tea for boys but am thinking we might save that for the next cruise.

I seriously considered the Royal Tea for our 7-year old because he loves tea parties, but in the end the swag was just not enough for the price. What the girls get, absolutely.

Surely you can ask for a Cinderella doll instead of the bear if he'd prefer that.
Disappointing it's not a prince doll though.

Completely agree - princes are hard to find at Disney properties. My sons were really excited when they got to meet Cinderella's prince at the character meal at 1900 Park Fare in Disney World, but I wish Disney did more with princes both in merchandise and meet and greets.

I did the Knight's Package at BBB with my son, it was only $20 and totally worth it. My son was 3.5 at the time. I did take my daughter to the tea party and she was 5 and she loved it.

I showed my son pictures and videos from the tea party afterwards and he didn't seem too interested. He does want to be knighted again and get dragon boogers in his hair the next time we cruise.

Does anyone have any pictures of what the boys get (specifically the bear and pins)?

My wife and I want to have my daughter go to it with my MiL, but she already did one with us a few years ago and doesn’t want all the same stuff. She’s a big pin collector though, so if they are cool, I’d book it and ask for her to get all the boys gifts.

I am interested in knowing what the pins look like....

Yes. I bumped a zombie thread!!

Haha, I guess that makes me a zombie. Wish I could help, but it turned out only my youngest son wanted to go in the end, and he wanted to get the princess gifts, so I put in a request at guest services for "princess" instead of "knight" gifts and that's what he got. The princess merch they give him was VERY nice quality (he LOVES the music box and the charm bracelet especially) so I imagine the pins wouldn't be too shabby either. It was worth every penny as it is the happiest I have ever seen him. He has been begging me incessantly to go back and I have it booked for our August cruise, so (if it sails) I will probably make him get the "knight" merch this time so he doesn't have two of everything.

Could you let me know if they let you buy extra knight merchandise? Specifically the pins?

I have a cruise booked in the fall but no kids so I have no idea if they will let me buy the pins without having a reservation

Sure!

If your little boy doesn’t care about princesses, I wouldn’t waste my money. It was neat but a one and done for me.

My son just did this in December 2019 and he had a great time. For us it will be a one-time thing (I think) but very glad he did it and no regrets. It was always on our bucket list and for their 10th Disney cruise we finally did it. He was 4.5 years old at the time and his sister 3.5 years old was there as well.
