Royal Pacific vs. Portofino Bay?

This will be our first time possibly staying on Universal property... I know Disney has the value, mod, deluxe... are any of the universal hotels structured this way?

All of the Universal hotels are deluxe hotels. Royal Pacific has the smallest rooms, Hard Rock the next and then Portofino.

I have stayed at both hotels. In August, we will be staying at Hard Rock to complete the on site trio. My stays at Royal Pacific and Portofino rank at the top of my list of great hotel expierences. We used to stay at Disney hotels and travel over to Uni on day trips. Since our RPR and PBH stays, we will only stay at one of these hotels when visiting Universal. Only way to go.

Both hotels are excellent, have stayed at both , and done split stay betwenn the 2 resorts, last being last July.
PBH rooms are big and the resort is georgeous, but we have been staying at RPR for 5 years now and love it, and always plenty going on around the pool for DD to join in and make friends. PBH was extremely quiet last July, and not a lot happening around the pool, and DD was bored after the 2nd day, but would not hesitate staying again [if RPR was Full]

PBH is more of an adult higher end type resort. It is farther away than the others from the parks. It is much quieter. RPR is a little more upbeat I say with HRH being the most lively and upbeat of all of them. They are all so lovely. U could always do a split, we love splitting our resorts, but we spend time at our resorts, not just do the parks. They are not ranked the way Disney resorts are in that there is a real clear difference between the values, mods and deluxes. At least with the HRH and RPR they are really comparable to one another with PBR being just slightly higher end.
