Hi,

I've decided I want to stay at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal for 4 nights before our stay at WDW for 20 nights to concentrate on the Universal parks and shopping.

I can get the room for $769.50 on a super saver rate in a standard room, DreamsUnlimited couldn't do it any cheaper so I was wondering if there is a cheaper rate anywhere.

I was also wondering on people's views of the RPR.

Any help much appreciated :thumbsup2

Hi pixie. I stayed at the RPR last june and had a great time. Everything about it was impressive - the pool, room, service. Depending upon your dates an annual passholder rate can be had for $134.50 plus tax per night. The code to use on the website is APH. The annual passes are only $199 i think. There is also one with blackout dates for $139 but i'm not sure if you can get the rate with that.

Probably will not find it any cheaper, we always book direct.
You could buy the AP ,although the one with blackout dates ,i do not think you can get hotel discounts.
You could try Triple A rates [ if you are a member of the AA here]

We stayed in the RPR was lovely when we stayed there last year. The Universal parks are our familyś favourites. What we tended to do was to visit Disney in the morning, then return for a chill out by the pool of the RPR before going into one of the Universal parks on an afternoon/evening. With having Express passes lines were never a problem.

It was lovely to actually be able to walk to a park and especially being able to walk back on an evening. My hubbie who does all the driving, found this so relaxing, not having to drive.

The actual hotel is really nice, with a beach feel to it. We had no problem getting loungers by the pool, even going in August. The hotel is only about 5 minutes walk from Islands. We had a room facing onto Dr Doom and The Hulk poking out from behind palm trees.

There is a quiet beach area where the volley ball net is set up where you can sit and watch the boats go by. Didn see anyone playing vollleyball, it was too hot.

We didn´t try the restaurants but did get breakfast in the Orchid Lounge most days. This is on the first floor, filled with cane, comfry settees and orchids.

We loved it and are going back next year. This year we are trying Hard Rock which looked nice when we had a look round last year.

Strangely the AAA rate was slightly more than direct, I had a feeling booking direct would be the cheapest so I think that's what i'm going to do.

I'm booking this hotel as a surprise for DH and kids and I love the idea of this hotel, the tropical feel to it appeals to me and being able to get the express passes and as you said, being able to walk to the parks.

I am thinking I would like to try the Luau, have you tried it?

No we didn t try it. At the moment we are not really into the shows, may get more into them when we don t have the sons with us (which I hope is a long time in the future).

This our 3rd stay at RPR, tried PBH but much prefer RPR.
We where at the LUAU last July, the food was really good and plenty of it, plus you help yourself as much and as many times as you like, and there is unlimited drink,Mai Tais Beer wine.
The show was typical Luau, fire juggling ,dancers ,audience participation, it was ok, DD loved it so much she went back to it the following week as a friend she met was going and wanted her to go. Probably worth doing the once to see what you think.
Everyones different, and i would go and make your own decisions on it.
We always stay here in July and never had any problems with sun beds, pool area is large and never feels crowded, my only complaint is even if you order 1 beer they charge you 18% service charge.

We've stayed twice at each of the USO resorts and will be staying at RPR for the third time in November. As the cheapest of the three, we've come to the conclusion that it definitely represents the best value for money. It could be argued that PBH is a better class of hotel than the other two, but it's further from the parks and CityWalk. HRH and RPR are very much on a par IMHO, just different theming.

Our two previous stays at RPR have been at the bargain AP rate of $139 a night. We're reeling a bit at having to pay $233 this trip, but it's still cheaper than the other two resorts for our dates. I'd say the price you've got is looking pretty good. :goodvibes

Some posters have said that it is better to book direct than even use the AAA pricing. I'm new to US/IOA. How exactly do you book direct?

:confused3

If you are planning to use AAA- supersaver rates or AP rates , its always better booking direct , you can then change your rates if one of the others comes up cheaper.
Booking Direct will not get you a cheaper rate unless you use one of the options above.

we also stayed at universal for the universal segment of our trip - in order to get unlimited front of the line..

we managed to easily cover everything in a two night stay....4 nights would have been way too much for us...

From my experience, you don't get much cheaper than the SuperSaver rates. I'd reserve that before it goes! :goodvibes

WOW..Royal Pacific Resort]

What a beautiful place it is. I also have been there in 2006.
You will really enjoy.

We have stayed at the RPR on 3 occassions now - it is fantastic.

The theming of the resort is so relaxing and the pool area never seems crowded.

It's a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the parks (or you can catch the complimentary water taxi !!!) and the Express pass privillage is awesome.

It is also home to our favourite restaurant Tchoup Chop - one of the best dining experiences in Orlando.

I have always found the best rates direct with Lowes - join the Lowes First programme for special offers and member benefits.

No real benefit in joining the Loews Youfirst programme, unless you are planning a couple of stays over the year, and you need to stay the amount of times depending what level you are at over a 12 month period to maintain that level. They have changed the programme , so no welcome gift until you are gold, and no free use of the fitness suite until you are Blue.

I have Platinum :woohoo: so already have my upgrades booked for next year, and had my stay this year to maintain my level for the next year.

We joined the Loews First Programme and chose water and fruit as our benefit but none of these were in the room so DH went to reception where they told us that they don't it anymore and they put me on the 'Blue' status there and then.

Funnily enough though for the rest of our stay there were bottles of water in the room each day, a turndown service and the Orlando Sentinel.

We also got free internet access too which was great!

I was surprised to be given the Blue status as it says you need to stay 2-3 times but hey i'm not complaining!

What is a Super Saver Rate???? I know about the AAA and Annual pass, but is the Super Saver different?

Kx

Do you only need to buy 1 Annual Pass in the lead name to get discounts for the whole room? Or would AA (AAA) rate discounts work out cheaper?

Kx
