My bf and I are obsessed with Disney and have been on DCL twice. We love the Disney shows and Disney themed atmosphere. We are interested in taking a cruise next month but not sure if we should go on Disney again or try Oasis of the Seas. I've heard that other ships are "party ships" and we are not drinkers or party animals so I'm not sure if it is right for us. From what I saw the ship looks like a huge mall and I am not interested in shopping or feeling like I'm in a mall when I'm on vacation. Can someone tell me what the Oasis has to offer for a young couple with no kids who aren't into the party scene?

Thanks. =]

I'm not sure you will get very many pro-Oasis or pro-Royal Caribbean responses on these boards. This is a DCL forum and most posters are very loyal to DCL.;)

If I were you I'd check out some Oasis trip reports on cruise critic. I'm one of the few who is equally a fan of DCL as well as RCCL Freedom and Oasis class. Oasis and Freedom class ships are not party ships, they are very much family ships.:goodvibes

But like I said you're asking the wrong bunch of people if you are looking for neutral opinions... :rolleyes1

I agree with livingis2me assessment of the Oasis. DH and I have been on the 'Wonder' with DGC and Oasis without children. Oasis is family oriented. DH and I aren't big party drinking people either, but we really enjoyed the Oasis.

There were people from all generations having a good time. The productions in the theatre are great, rock climbing (or in our case attempting to rock climb) was great; sitting on the boardwalk having breakfast at Johnny Rockets; being entertained by fellow passengers in the karoke bar; and eating in a couple of the upscale restaurants in Central Park was unbelieveable.

I would recommend a ocean balcony room versus interior rooms (i.e. Central Park view) if having a waterview room in important to you.

I really enjoyed the promenade on the 70's night party...my DH and I got a kick out of looking at passengers that looked like 'The Golden Girls' having such a good time.

We are taking our DGC on the 'Dream' next year, then the following year our intent is to take them on the 'Allure' or 'Oasis' as they have expressed an interest in rocking climbing and other anemities that aren't offered on DCL.

Our thought is to start combining our WDW trips with post-cruises on RCCL line (not to mention RCCL is not as expensive at DCL).

I'm am sure you will have a good time on either cruiselines.:goodvibes

Don't fear. Edd will be along soon to sing the praises of RCI over DCL.

When on our 14th DCL Cruise we docked next to the other ship mentioned, while in Nassau...;) was enough for me...:lmao:

Agreed....in anticipation of how this thread can go....please keep it civil everyone.....Thank You!!

You know I have got to jump in. I do have a question and maybe that will help the couple out.

What is there on the DCL for a young couple to do? OP #4 pretty well detailed what there is to do aboard one of the big RC's, and that pretty much sums up the agenda for the RC Freedom. If the couple does not like to do that and loves the agenda of the DCL than why should she and her BF not go back.

My only suggestion would be why cruise on DCL when you know everything that goes on there. Why not try a new adventure on a new ship. There is the Carnival Dream, RC Freedom and NCL Sun that sail out of Port Canaveral and maybe that would provide a clue to whether they are really DCL cruisers.

I am sailing the Freedom Dec. 5th in case anyone is going on it and want to meet.

I have not experienced the party atmosphere on either of the RCCL cruises I have been on. Both of them were on "smaller" ships which are about the same size as the Magic or Wonder. The service and food were the same quality as Disney. In fact, on our last cruise on Enchantment of the Seas, we had the best service we have ever had on any cruise. Our waiter, assistant waiter, head server, and cabin steward were all excellent. The ships were both in very good condition for their age, and we had a great time. The big difference was the entertainment. It wasn't anywhere close to as good as Disney.

It was nice to visit some different ports, and we will definitely be cruising on RCCL again.

Hey Edd, joining you on the Freedom on Dec. 5 also. Traveling with my DH and a couple of friends. Love Royal. We've already cruised on Liberty a few years back. Have Allure booked for next year.

I do like the entertainment on the other ships in the cruise fleets. The entertainment put out by the DCL is one of my biggest questions. I don't enjoy it at all after three cruises, but it is good for the kids.

I like the dancers and dance choreography on the other cruise lines. The hip-hoppers on the Carnivals. The once famous singers, but still great, on the RCL and the NCL. The replica bands like the Beatles on the RCI. The Elvis memories on the Carnival. The Airiel show and the Magic Allusion show on the Freedom. The professional touring well known comedians on all the ships. On the RCL the street dancing and circus parades in the Royal Promenade.

P.L. Let's plan to meet.

We have been on the Disney Wonder twice and the Freedom once (we have not been on the Oasis). We sailed with DCL first (two times) and then sailed on the Freedom. We loved our two DCL cruises and were somewhat disappointed with our Freedom cruise. We went on board the Freedom expecting an experience similar to our Disney cruise and really missed the things, that to us, really made the DCL cruise "magical".

We have friends that wanted to try sailing for the first time. They are not Disney fans, so the compromise was the Freedom. So we are sailing her again, but I am setting my expectations accordingly. I am not saying that in a bad way, but I am going to set my DCL experience aside and enjoy.

I still think by far (and we are going to give Carnival a spin early next year) DCL is a better fit for us.

Good luck with whatever you decide! :cool1:

I should totally give this suggestion to my friend he only cruises on Freedom and Explorer, he needs to try DCL or Carnival.

And you should totally take that suggestion yourself and cruise on the RCI or Carnival.

I love Disney.

I am not a party anaimal and have no kids.

I am doing the Dream because it's NEW. It will probably be my last DCL trip. IMHO Disney is really not near as much fun as the RCCL for adults. They cater to thier primary audience... parents with kids. nothing wrong with that, but....

After a few days on RCCL I wondered why I had only done Disney before.... The RCCL cost less and honestly provided more (not to mention they have a LOT more ports and sailings to chose from)

My sister has done BOTH, and she LOVED. Absolutely. LOVED Oasis!!!! She is not a 'mall' person either, but the entertainment options were awesome and food was amazing!! Keep in mind, she and her hubby do not have kids, but they are not HUGE partiers either. Oasis is probably a few bucks cheaper, so they'd get my vote.....

Was she on the Wonder or the Magic?
