Has anyone been on one of the Royal Carribean's newer ships? How was it. Does it compare to Disney? Been on 2 Disney Cruises and looking for something a little different.

I have never been on RC but I am sure many people on this board will tell you that Disney has it's pluses. You might want to head over to cruisecritic to check out their board there.

Good Luck!:)

We have sailed RCCL four times, including twice on their new ships (Voyager and Radiance). The ships are very lovely, although the cabin size is still smaller than Disney. Service was good, and food was good on Radiance (on Voyager, I think it's just too big to keep up the food quality). I loved the ice rink on Voyager...their ice show was so awesome that we saw it twice. There was lots for kids to do, such as the rock climbing wall and mini-golf course (of course, we had to try those things too). As a childless couple, we didn't like the fact that kids were constantly underfoot, with no adults-only areas to escape to. But for families that wouldn't be as much of a problem. Disney is definitely still my favorite by far (7 more booked on them in 2002 and 7 in 2003), but if you're looking for something different, RCCL's newer ships are very nice.

We went on the Voyager of the Seas over Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time..The kids enjoyed the club as much as the Disney ship..maybe even a little bit more..The voyager class have an ice skating rink, rock climbing wall, mini-golf,inside promanade etc..lots to do and never a dull moment. We plan to go on another voyager class ship in the next few years..

DH and I just came off the Explorer two days ago and all I can say is, "What a ship!" I am a Disney-holic and must say that I miss all the Disney touches, but I wouldn't hesitate to cruise Royal Caribbean again. The ship is BIG and can be a little intimitdating, but the size alone allows for lots of extras. As mentioned, there is rock climbing, mini golf, in-line skating, an ice show and ice skating. We don't have children but I have to say that the children on this ship were never under foot. There is an adults only pool and jacuzzi area (the Solarium) and the "adults only" part seemed to be strictly enforced. The entertainment seemed to be geared more for adults and the casino onboard was great! The Royal Promenade area was wonderful for shopping, people watching, and even had a cafe that was open 24 hours a day for sanwiches, pizza, cookies, and ice cream! Anyway, that's my $.02. We had a great time but my heart still belongs to Disney! :D

How do the prices compare for the 7 day cruises? From what I have seen they are higher than Disney or am I just looking at it wrong.

DH and I paid $1049 per person for a category D1 which is an outside stateroom with verandah for our 2/2/02 - 2/9/02 cruise on the Explorer. We booked our own air and flew down to Miami a day ahead of time. The hotel we stayed at (although I wouldn't really recommend it) offered a complementary shuttle from the airport to the hotel and then from the hotel to the port. Super Shuttle brought us back to the airport after the cruise for $13/person. The airfare, hotel and shuttle were still less than what RCCL wanted just for airfare and transfers.

How strong was the smell of cigarette smoke on the RCCL ships?

Hi. I have only been on RCCL (though I would love to be able to save up for DCL one day). I have been on the 4-night on Sovereign of the Seas (Bahamas cruise) and 7-night on Grandeur of the Seas (Southern). Neither are the new, large ships, and I still love them. Maybe if I had the Disney ships to compare to I would think differently. However, I have done the honeymoon suite at the Grand Floridian for a week, and I still don't think anything bad about the cruise ships.

I don't remember the smell of smoke on either of them, and I'm pretty sensitive to it. People can't just smoke anywhere. There are certain locations for people to smoke.
