Ok, I just found out yesterday that my children's school denied our application for excused absence for our vacation!!! OMG I just do not know what to do!! We had our spring break week planned, but figured out it was cheaper to add a week than to plan another week of vacation. Geesh.... Now I have to get with all the swappers before me and ask them to change meeting places

That really stinks. How many days of unexcused absenses are you allowed? Our schools allow 10 before they get a truant officer involved. Went through this last year when DD went to WDW for cheer. Her school allows the high school squad to take off for a week with excused absenses but won't allow the girls that are on all star squads to do the same. We just let it go down as unexcused and got a letter informing us that if she had 10 or more a truant officer would be involved. She had 5 so no problems. PM when you get a chance and we can make whatever arrangements you need.

Now that is just stupid! I never understand HOW a school can deny things like this. They don't live in the family, they don't know about the family jobs when the parent can take vacations, or anything else. My God, if a responsible parent is able to take a vacation (you have to be able to provide for your family which means you earn time off so you can take a vacation) and willing to continue their children's studies in their down time while one vacation...I don't see the problem.

We ALWAYS go the third week, always plan down time, and 90% of the time, Parker is so far ahead of her class when she gets back that she is bored at school because what the other students are learning she did at WDW.

We don't have to Apply for vacations, so let me ask. What happens if you just say, sorry this is how it is going to be...we are leaving on this day?

I think that we are allowed 5 days of unexcused absences.* The absences we had already (one each) were excused because we went to the doctor and got a note!* Our school does allow a 5 day family vacation to be excused with 4 conditions #1 student must have 95% attendance rate (we meet that requirement with 100%) #2 must be passing all classes (all kids have a B or better average) #3 Cannot be at the end of a grading period #4 cannot be during ISTEP or NWEA testing.

OUr issue this year is that it is the end of the third grading period.Last year we had an issue with our middle son because he had more than 5 days absences.* He has asthma and had a lot of colds/flu last year.* Perfectly healthy this year.* Well last year when I took him out of school for 2 days they were so pissed.* They told me that he would have to go to summer school because of excessive absenteeism.* No problem.* They didnt follow through, instead we received a letter stating that he did so well on his NWEA testing that they wanted to do further tests and advance him an extra grade!* That part didnt happen, but as a reward for scoring so high, the school sent him to a smart kids camp that summer, all expenses paid.*

So I'm not worried about them missing school because they can't catch up.* The school will not allow them to complete assignments for the week.* All 3 of them would have to take a zero for each day!!!I'm going to call the principal at 10 today and try to get it worked out.* I'm hoping for the best.* We had a school delay today because of the fog, so its killing me to sit here and wait the extra 2 hours to call!!

Any way you can work it out directly with the teachers? Maybe have them complete the assignments before you go? Would be a lot of extra work but worth it in the end.

Wooo hoooo I worked things out with the school!!

My kids will be allowed to make up the tests they are missing! However if they miss anymore school they will need a doctor excuse... Wooo hooo!
