Roy E & Stanley Gold Announce Reconciliation w/Disney Co

I think you hit the nail on the head, Erik. There is no question that Bob Iger is making it clear that he's in charge now, and the company will be better for it. Hopefully, he'll lead the company through as successful a reign as did Michael Eisner.

To be completley fair, Roy and Stan always have said that Ei$ner DID a good job at one time, but he lost sight of things after the first 10 years or so, and that's why they lost faith in him.

You are right mitros. At one time Eisner was very good indeed. Or was it really Wells?

Excellent statement! It most certainly has been suggested that once Wells And Katzenberg were no longer on the scene, Ei$ner began his decent into "insanity"

Hey guys, on another thread someone posted another possible scenario... It seems that Roy recently gave up his boat racing (one of his pasions) could he have health issues and just be tired of it all...

There was a part of the e-mail which I keep re-reading...
The Company also reaffirmed its commitment to the rotation of committee members and chairpersons on its Board committees as currently required by the Company's Corporate Governance Guidelines.

Could this be his subtle way of telling us that he will still watchdog them following the guidelines that Ei$ner has been twisting to his own ends?????

:jumping2:

Gave up boat racing? That would be interesting, because He's entered in a race on the 17th.

I figure he just wants to go back to his castles and boats.

Man it gets confusing when professionals doing their jobs have disagreements.

No. He's agreed not to run a rival slate of directors or submit shareholder resolutions for the next five years. He's explicitly reversed his earlier position about the future, expressing confidence in Mr. Iger's leadership.

OK, but if they do not follow the rules (as stated in the press release) he might has something (hopefully in writing) to allow him some action... A person can hope, I mead what are we without hope???

This is suppose to be his last race. It is a California to Hawaii race and is special to him. He holds the speed record for this event.

Indeed, though I would stake my hope in the fact that Roy Disney and Stanley Gold have come around enough in their confidence in Bob Iger's leadership that we can rely on that being what's best for the Disney Company.

I have to believe that whatever deal these guys came up with, Roy and Stan aren't standing up there, putting their support behind Iger without any conviction. They've shown that they're not afraid of a long protracted fight, even as the underdogs. But maybe they were just a tad blinded by the whole "we hate Michael Eisner" thing and weren't looking at Iger as anything but Eisner Jr. But once they're talking 1-on-1 with Iger, they realized hey ... maybe he's not the patsy we took him to be. Don't you think, really, that a lot of Roy and Stan's feelings about Iger came more from his link to Eisner than from any true belief that he didn't have the skills? Maybe they met with the guy, heard him out, and saw enough there to ease their minds and give themselves a graceful way out. That's what I'd like to think, anyway.

:earsboy:

Let's just hope that Roy and Stan have a lot of what is going to happen in writing. I can see the Iger/Ei$ner connection pulling a fast one down the road. Ei$ner has been known to do this to people during his tenure at Disney.

Just got an e-mail from saveDisney, looks promising...

July 14, 2005 - First of all, please accept my most sincere thanks for your faith and trust in us, and for sticking with us through thick and thin during this campaign. You have been our biggest help in the tough times, and the good times... and there is no way to say "thank-you" any more sincerely than I do now.

It's been a while since last I wrote to you about how much nicer Disneyland has been looking lately, and as you probably know, a lot has happened in that time... maybe the single most important thing being that we here at SaveDisney have come to an agreement with the new management at the Walt Disney Company regarding our mutual relationship.

Accordingly, on August 7th, we will permanently close down this website... with regrets, of course, but also with the satisfaction that it has served its purpose... to inform and educate all of you about the future of the Disney legacy.

One result, which pleases me personally, and my family (which has endured these months alongside me), and of course Stanley Gold and many others here at Shamrock, is that I have been asked to rejoin the Company, as a Consultant, and as Director Emeritus, and to take part in whatever way I can help as a part of the Company, its art and its business. It is my intent to fully be a part of the Company again, to the best of my ability, and I can never fully describe what a joy it is that I will soon be re-connecting with so many friends - - from my past, from my present, and from my future.

There is so much more that can not be addressed here, but there are plenty of encouraging signs toward the future vision of the Walt Disney Company, visions that we share and have shared through these difficult times.

So for the moment, let me thank each of you and all of you for sharing your emotions and your ideas and your passion for what my Father and Uncle Walt created. Join with us as we enter into this new era, and its promise for a "great big, beautiful tomorrow."

On a purely personal note, I only hope than I can come close to living up to all your hopes and dreams, and maybe even play a part in creating some new dreams!

Interesting. They're apparently providing no more details than the what they provided with the original statement. It looks like all that was reached was an agreement not to fight anymore, and an agreement to let Roy Disney have a desk in the hq. That's pretty-much what it looked like from the earlier statement.

In my mind there's no doubt about that.
However, they needed some time to make a judgement on how much of ME had been 'installed' in Iger before simply saying 'anyone other than ME is ok with us'.

I also think that a person could reasonable assume that there is a written 'memo of understanding' as to how both parties will conduct themselves, which is not going to be made public.
Both sides had to much invested, and had too much at stake (emotionally, finacially & otherwise) to reach this point without one.

A castmember specifcically referred to Roy (while on VMK tour yesterday) as a Company Consultant.

Glad that silliness is finally over.

??? Do you believe that Disney has not had problems in all of their divisions? Theme Parks, Disney Stores, Movie & Videos?

The only "silliness" has been what has happened to the "Magic" that was once Disney!

The silliness I was referring to is the sour grapes of two former Directors, thinking they knew better than the rest of the Board. :rolleyes2
