Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

GO RUN!!

In all seriousness ... I've had that "I don't really feel motivated to run" thing after a race. It happens. It's even worse when life gets in the way. But you just have to go out there and do it. Find a way to get yourself out there, and hope that it will get easier with time.

I have not ran...at all...since my hot chocolate race and I feel terrible about it!!! It's been really really busy at work for my husband and so by the time he comes home from work it is time to tuck the baby into bed or later and at that point I'm usually eating my dinner and I'm just done for the night.
I have no excuse for not running this weekend outside other than having a wedding, a wedding reception and then a daughter who wanted to be with her mommy and a mommy who wanted to nap during her daughter's nap.

So here I am saying I'm not perfect and I've fallen off the wagon and I want to get back on. Last night I should have ran. My hubby got home at 8pm and we let our daughter stay up until 8:30 so they could spend time together. I should have gone out running at 8:30 or 9 to they gym and I didn't. The darkness makes me feel like its' midnight.

Tonight hubby should be coming home normal-ish time. I should be able to feed us all at a normal-ish time. I have clean laundry and all my running gear set out. The house is clean. There are no insane storms happening like last week to block me from wanting to go outside. I really have literally no excuses. So it's a date with the treadmill tonight...and I think maybe the bike too.

I'm not ashamed or anything...I've been working very very hard with running all year...but I know my personality and it's easy for me to just kind of stop doing things for no reason. But TONIGHT I RUN!

(also I am getting super excited that it's almost Thanksgiving which is almost Christmas which is almost January which is almost my Disney race weekend....yaaaaaaay)
I haven't run at all either since Wine and Dine. I feel a bit bad about it, but because of a combination of factors, I also feel that I'm justified in just needing to give myself a break. I'm hoping to get back out soon though. I was thinking possibly this weekend, but now it's looking like we may be getting snow on Friday and Saturday, and it's going to be pretty cold (20/30 degree temps after being in the 70s 2 weeks ago!). I may sign up to do a local 5K on Thanksgiving that I did last year just for a little fun.

I ran! I may have taken longer than I needed getting ready and I may have forgotten my phone at home, but I ran! 35 minutes + the warmup and cool down. Just did 5mph on the treadmill and only 15 min into the run did I realize I could have taken my headphones out of my purse anyways and plugged them into the TV speakers on my treadmill. Duh?!!!!

Oh well. The piped in music at the gym is basically the same stuff as my playlist. I'm such a space cadet sometimes!

I'll toot my own horn that I also cooked dinner, did the dishes and the laundry and played dress up with my kiddo before running and took the garbage out after. No excuses night !

And now I get to enjoy a far too long hot shower after I stop sweating (TMI?)

I totally get what you are saying. The 5k sounds like a great way to stay motivated and it doesn't require any long runs. It'll feel like a breeze after wine n dine too I bet!

I know I'm a few days behind, but ...
Yay! You ran! I'm so excited for you! You're getting back out there!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I have some fun pictures that are not running related...but they are Disney related...and involve family people that I run with...so let's allow it :)

This Saturday our family attended an ABC Family Christmas event the day of the downtown city-lighting parade. They had little arts and crafts and cocoa and cookies, etc for the kids and you could stand in line to get your pictures taking with some real Disney characters. We got there a little early and actually ended up third in line which was great. My kiddo wore her red glittery (OMG glitter everywhere) Christmas dress and was shy at first until it really dawned on her that it was Minnie and Mickey and she leaped from my husbands arms and gave Minnie the biggest hug in the world. Her excitement makes me so happy we are going in January. I know people don't always share my enthusiasm for taking a toddler to disney...but I don't know at what age she will stop believing so fully and will start questioning the characters.
We met Mickey & Minnie and then Donald and Daisy. Notice she wanted to hold their hands (how cute...omg...dying of cuteness.)

Then after eating some goodies and heading out, someone my husband knows that worked for the event tipped us off that from 12:30 to 1 there would be new characters coming. So we actually we able to go eat lunch with his parents, have a wardrobe change (that dang glitter dress...I still have glitter on me even today) and then go back at 12:30 and see Goofy and Pluto and the chipmunks with a very small wait since the event was almost over. Success!

This is our group that is going to Disney in Jan. So if you see us, say hi.

Great pictures! I love those! Very cool that you got to go to this event. :) The kiddo wanting to hold hands is indeed adorable, and makes me think that you and Mr. roxymama are raising her right. :thumbsup2

I love all the pictures - sounds like a pretty cool event to have going on nearby!

Your daughter is so super cute with the characters! I especially love the one with Pluto and Goofy ... she looks like she wants to stay there with Pluto forever. I think you guys will have a lot of fun meeting characters with her in the park.

Thanks guys. I think she'll be stealing my Pluto medallion after my race for sure. But that's ok.

I reached out to Dopebadger for some advice on a new training plan so stay tuned. I've pretty much been in a rut of running 3 miles at same treadmill pace and that should help me start fresh.

Happy turkey day to all! The snow melted here so I may forego shopping and try a run outside tomorrow :)

I have not been on here in a while and I fault that to a mix of craziness at work, craziness at home and just general distraction around the holidays. But it has been a happy and good kind of busy.

So this is what I am up to.

I got my bib assignment for the 5k at WDW AND!!! my magic bands shipped!!! So this means it is really getting real. My dream of running a Disney race is actually happening. I'm a little choked up about it to be honest because for YEARS I looked on with a sense of longing at people who had the ability or self-confidence (or both) to run and I've always always wanted to feel what it was like to A) cross a finish line and B) run through Disney. And now that I know what A feels like...I get to do it at Disney!!!
Something weird sparked in me this spring and I'm not sure why or how I decided this was the year I finally actually tried. But I'm proud of myself and my family for what we have accomplished so far this year.

That being said....I have to get my backside to the gym tonight to get my miles in on the treadmill. I'll be running on Friday outside too because I have a day off and I have not ran outside since November. My new motivation is to run fast enough to get to a character line before it is a mile long...and then after I take my first picture I can take it easy "sight seeing" through the race.

I'm still a little nervous about the Expo and packet pickup because I have to go to more than one building for my packet/shirt and then my pin. But at least I will have my father-in-law with me to navigate.

After this race is complete I have an amazing plan from @DopeyBadger because as @Ariel484 said "All the cool kids are doing it" And that will start my journey to getting me crossing an 8k finish line in the spring. And yes I was name dropping.

I'M GETTING SO EXCITED AND ODDLY NERVOUS!!!

The race is coming up fast, and I know you'll be awesome! It really is an incredible experience, and after all the hard work you've put in, I know it will feel great to finally accomplish this dream. You've got a great attitude about the race (I like the part about getting to a character line before its a mile long ... those things can be insane sometimes, so the faster you can get there, the better!), and I'm sure it will be an experience to remember!

And I'm sure you'll rock your 8K this spring!

Lots of exclamation points today, but that's because I'm super excited for you!

Thanks @SarahDisney for always being so encouraging! I hope there is some way we can try to say hello and get a picture together before the 5k. I'm sure people will start arranging that kind of thing on the marathon thread as we get closer. I don't even know my corral yet so maybe we can meet before they pen us in! Same with the other dopey runners who will be 5k-ing with us.

I walk/ran/walk/ran/walked last night at the gym and it felt really good. Sort of a little dress rehearsal if you will. Walk to warm up. Ran a mile, walked a little bit "like a character stop", ran some more to get me to 3 total miles, then cool down walk...but no one gave me a banana or box of food or a medal. No mice were there to take pics with...just the normal gym rats lifting weights.

I am excited that I will have a bunch of days off with my husband coming up around the holidays and there will actually be opportunities for us to run together outside even if it is cold out.

OMG now what to start thinking about packing!!!!

Sorry I've not been by in a while!! I'm glad to see that you are still rocking it!!! I love reading your journal, your energy comes across so much and it's really motivating!

And YAH for bibs!!!! I was so excited to finally get my number! We'll be in the same coral I think?? I'm going to be in B I think...

I am so proud of you too... When are you going to the expo? We'll be going first thing Wednesday, I'm nervous about getting all the merch I want lol
I've been to the Wine&Dine expo and that too had items in different buildings, it's very well organised though and so many people around to help out.

I'm totally with you on the excited but nervous feelings!!

I can't believe our trip is so soon!!!

I'm glad even little ol me is motivating...coming from someone taking on much longer races than me that means a lot.
We are arriving on Wed morning and our flight got pushed back one hour. So I think our plan is to arrive and check in to our hotel or store our bags if our room is not ready. Then my father-in-law and I are going to take a bus (if it's there waiting) or an uber/taxi if we are impatient to the expo...so probably at lunchtime...we won't be there earlier than that.
Luckily we are not super worried about merchandise (if we were running the longer races we would probably want more.) So the plan is to get in, get our pre-ordered pins, get our bib and shirts and get back. I'm thinking of skipping the dooney and seeing what they have in the magic kingdom gift shops in regular dooney cross-body patterns. I'm ok if mickey and minnie are not running on them :)
We have a festival of fantasy parade FP that first day as our "first thing for my daughter to do" so if anything if we aren't back in time, Grandma and daddy can take her and we will meet her but I'd love to watch it with her.

Yay for Corral B!!!...if that's where we land. I hate not knowing exactly, I wish they could just tell us. I'm wondering why they don't tell us 5k-ers. Maybe they think it is to not stress out the casual runners...but I don't think they realize how much they are stressing me out :)

We should all make sure to post our corral assignments on Wed after we get our official 5k spots!! And I'll post a pic of myself again to remind people what I look like.

Right now I have the start of a cold!!! I'm pounding cold eaze and praying I can just get over it before Christmas. If I feel up to it I will still try to get some miles in tomorrow.

Hope the cold goes away soon. I am terrified of the holidays. It never fails that I get sick from either Thanksgiving or Christmas, and this year I made it pass Thanksgiving without an issue. My big goal race of the season is always early January. So, getting a cold that starts a few days after X-mass would make it almost impossible to fully recover from and not have it effect my race is some form or another. I recommend lots of OJ.
