Rowenta irons

I've done a fair share of research but I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews, so I thought I'd ask the Dis.

Someone on my list is asking for a good iron for Christmas. From what I've read, Rowenta appears to be the best, albeit a little pricey. If you have one, can you tell me about it (model, price, if you like it)? I don't mind paying extra for quality. Thanks!

I have a Rowenta. Absolutely the best iron I've ever owned and definitely worth the price. I would never buy a different brand again. They are heavy yet maneuverable and have a solid metal plate with no teflon which is great cause it's easy to clean. I can't recommend a model as I've had mine for over 5 years now and every year they come out with different models with slight improvements. As to features I will recommend that if you can afford one with a removable water tank I'd get one with that feature and for me auto off is a necessity.

As far as best price - Macy's has them on sale right now for 40% off so if you have a coupon that's also good on small electrics (some are some aren't) you can get a real good deal on them.

Same here, I love mine. I dropped my first one on the tile floor and it broke! I'm on my second one now. I iron mostly DH's dress shirt and love the steam on the Rowena, it's a little heavy but not too bad.

I bought a Rowenta about 6 months ago. I always had cheap irons and decided I really wanted a good one. I noticed that Project Runway contestants used Rowenta so I figured if it was good enough for them, it would work for me. anyhow, I bought one--not the top of the line--but near it and OMG!!!!!! It's FANTASTIC!! I don't iron much, but no more going back and forth over the same area multiple times It's heavy but very effective.

it makes the AWFUL job of ironing easier to do. Like everyone has said they are a little heavy but work great.

Love my Rowenta, I'm on my second one because I dropped the first one. DS told his fiancee' that she needs one LOL!!! I bought mine at B.J.'S wholesale club about 3 years a go and paid about $80.00 for it. I hate to iron but as a PP stated you don't have to keep going over the same area several times.

I inherited mine from my mom when she bought a newer one and I love it. We are quilters and they work quite well. Very good investment.

I love my Rowenta, also. I bought about 5-6 years ago at JoAnn's with a 40% off coupon. Best iron I have ever used. I would buy another one in a heartbeat, even at full price.

Sign up for Boscov's email sales if you do not have one nearby. They always have great sales on Rowenta. I agree, will never own or allow a child of mine to have another.

My dil had borrowed my iron an Startch, it was so funny how she was excited about the stratch removing the wrinkles in her white blouse....until I told her it was not the startch, it was the Rowenta!

Mine came with cleaner and a lot of extras. I think it was the $64.00 one for $39.99 when I bought it few years ago. Great buy.

I quilt, and I use my iron A LOT. I never have good luck with irons, usually I'm lucky if they last 6 months. I bought a Rowenta (I think it was about $129), and it was the BEST iron I ever had. For about a year, then it started to leak. And leak. And leak. And leak. Then I didn't love it so much. Apparently, its not uncommon for them to leak. Just something for you to be aware of if you like to use steam. If you use it dry, you won't have the leaking problem.

Since then, I bought an Oliso. That's the one with the little feet built into the soleplate so that it lifts up off the ironing board automatically when you stop moving it. Some people HATE that, but I LOVE it. The Oliso is fabulous. I've had it for over two years now, and it still gets hot (which cheaper irons never do for that long) and it doesn't leak.

I am on my second Rowenta because I too dropped my first. Then my MIL bought us a Black & Decker to replace it. That lasted for a bit until I needed to be back to Rowenta. There's just no comparison between the two. I would check Sam's Club if you have one near you.
