route, best time to drive, snack stop?

Leaving San Diego about 7pm and driving to Anaheim Embassy Suites South on a Wednesday. What is the best route to avoid traffic and keep to safe areas? Is 7pm a good time to start out trafficwise? Is there a convenience store or drug store near the hotel that is safe to stop at night or should we do that before leaving SD?

7pm should be a fine time to drive SD to Anaheim. Take the 5 north to Anaheim. I don't know about the store issue. If you know of a store already in SD, might be easier to just grab what you need, so you don't have to go out after check in.
