Will disney ever do anything with the rotting land such as river country or discovery island? I've heard many rumors of things but nothing has ever come out. Is there anything planned for any of these places? I've heard a new DVC is coming to replace river country any other rumors about this?

in a word: no..at least to discovery

discovery island is going to stay as such - as there is no reason to revisit/reuse it unless there is a high profit idea that can be implemented. Short of Jurassic Park with a live T-Rex - i don't see it.

river country...on the other hand...will be gobbled up as part of an expansion of the campground or new development at some point. The odds there are on a DVC development - as they are very shortly going to be out of options at existing hotel locations (after poly - of course) and those that are close to park gates due much better as far as sales/bookings by all possible measures.

I typically don't believe anything until a large construction company starts rolling trucks in...but i do believe that a development over river country is in the 10 year or less future (lightning speed compared to 5 years to build new fiberglass castles and clone rides in fantasyland and three years to build Midway Mania - an old ride concept in an abandoned building)

Once the DVC at GF is completed, you can expect to see groud breaking for the RC DVC

Is there any other land that could be developed? If so what and are there rumors for them?

Their request to build power plant next to AK was approved. That seems like a big deal because it's not just an expansion, but is there any non-conservation land over in the SW part of the world that they can build on?

I suppose it could just feed into the grid, but we can dream that there might be more to it than that! ;-)

Humm.... Part of me is thinking about DVC sites at FW. If they were at the River country site they could be marketed at premium lake front sites.

It would be a way to guarantee the return trips by the big rigs. Sprinkle in luxury cabins for when the rest of the family comes along. Then you have a nice way to bridge the WL villas into FW.

If they need another power plant, there's generally a reason to need more power.

There are posts around the Camping forum of construction permits, water line plans, sewer lines etc. around the area of River Country. Whether they'll follow through with them is a different story.
