RotR Planning & Daily Boarding Group Discussion - *CLOSED*

According to the HUB all BG were filled by 9am, including the backup bg. The backup bg start at 106

I simply can't view anything that puts everyone on the same level as negative.
I agree. This gives everyone the same chance of riding without having to get up at 3am or 4am. Having to get up that early on one or more of our vacation days sounds terrible...and that's just on our adult trips. Our extended family trip this January I was/am dreading having to get all the kids up at a super early time just to ensure we get to ride. Honestly, once they get this ride running at full capacity I think this system will be much more preferable than the 3:30am wake up call.

Is ROTR still experiencing frequent technical difficulties? Is its capacity currently assumed to be significantly lower than 100% because of difficulties? Has this been discussed somewhere and I just can’t find it? Sorry to those of you who got up very early this morning and didn’t have the experience you expected.
From day 1. Yes the ride has experienced techincal difficulties and is not running at 100%. This has been discussed in this thread from day 1

What little I've been watching that seems pretty on par, no?
As the crowds amp up over the next week it will only get earlier/faster, I'm guessing.
I know our kids here are out of school today and they can't be alone, so I'd think they'll start heading higher tomorrow

As for when initial BGs filled today, they were at least full by 7:58am when I looked, but I was busy prior to that and was not looking. Hopefully someone else was and can report.

I think there’s negatives and positives if this continues.

The obvious positive being no need to get up and get there excessively early. And Disney transport should be okay which is a big positive for those of us with kids in car seats.

Like someone said, it takes away control. With a regular rope drop and with VQ up until now those at the front of the pack saw the most benefit. You could reasonably assure you would be riding in the earlier part of the morning and not tie up your day, especially helpful for those people who already had afternoon or evening plans. Another negative - you are now more at the mercy of your phone, your connection, and your app coming through for you because everyone is jumping on at once and there isn’t a slow trickle. Errors are magnified. And a negative that will probably fade with time, the lack of trust this is the new normal. Probably still smart to show up early just incase, which stinks when you wait there for 2 hours only to receive a late group anyways.

definitely has started to get he holiday crowds this week - though will build even more starting this weekend I think. I know my kids don't start holiday break until Monday (think that is pretty standard for NY)

Can you expand any more on what’s going on with it? Or point me to a place i might find more information? I admit I have not read all 250 pages of this thread. I’m very interested in the issues that are going on though and can’t seem to find any information anywhere. I spend most of my time over on the rumors and news board where people don’t want to say anything so as not to post spoilers over there.

South Americans get about a month of holiday vacation, they started arriving about a week and a half ago, families and the big groups as well

No spoilers here either, pretty please.

I first want to say that this totally sucked for the people that got there super early today.

That said, I get Disney's thinking in that the crowds were coming earlier and earlier and larger crowds were coming earlier with it being rather large by like 5:15 and that creates staffing challenges and potentially safety issues

With this new model there is no benefit to arriving before like 6:30/6:45 (just enough time to ensure you are through security and in the park by 7.

Again it truly sucks for the people that got there super early today but over time I think this can be ok (assuming the app holds up)
I've been watching this thread for the last week ... We are going over Xmas with 2 little kids, and the thought of getting them up at 4am (I honestly couldn't do any earlier than that) was making me so stressed. If they are actually sticking with a rope drop VQ, it really sucks for those of you who got up 6 hours ago, but I can see it being a big safety/crowd control concern once they start opening at 6am on Dec. 26. Now I am wondering whether we aim to try HS earlier in our trip, when HS opens at 7am, than 6. Before, I was thinking of doing the 6am open because I think (especaily over the holidays with fewer DISers reading?) there's going to be a limit to the # of people crazy enough to get to the park at 5am or earlier. But if 7am opening means there's little benefit to tapping in immediately v. tapping in around 7, I can live with getting a little more sleep!

I really hope they are trying all this now so that the holiday week isn't a disaster. Sorry for the early-rising guinea pigs today.

I mean the gist is that it's not running smoothly, going down frequently through out the day. No one knows exactly what's happening but the important point is that it is not at 100%

well, the negatives are

a) this wasn't info provided earlier so people showed up at o'dark'thirty expecting same procedure as yesterday as no indication it would be any different, so does kinda suck for those people
b) for a standard rope drop there is still advantage to being there early as you would be at the front of the line and can get to the ride of your choice faster that the people that arrived after you and are behind you in line. With this new set up for RotR boarding groups, someone who comes at 6:45 has the exact same chance as someone who comes at 4:45. So it isn't the *exact* same as regular rope drop.

I think in the long run it is a better thing especially with how larger groups were showing up earlier and earlier ... but I do see the other side as well for people who can/are willing to get there early not having any advantage

not sure how I feel since it’s a busy two days for us ...up at 2:30a yesterday, MVMCP last night, bed around 1a, DS @ 5a, thenDAH AK tonight. I understand fair but when I get rope drop at MK for 7 dwarfs I have a reasonable expectation that I’ll be the first few hundred on the attraction...that’s my advantage. Why take it away in this case? Our main issue for getting an early bg was to get out by 11a so we could get some relaxing in before another 1am ...that’s our issue not anyone else’s. That being said my daughter and I both were hitting the app at 7 ...I got in quick but the app locked (saying we weren’t allin the Park) she ended up getting in but it only included her ...I had nothing! So we wasted 20 mins trying to get that fixed. We ended up with bg 45. I will say this -they changed something because the groups are moving much quicker today than other days I saw. At 9:42 we’re up to 33. What did they change?

People aren't posting spoilers here, either. This thread is for information about the boarding groups, times, etc. If you want to know specifics, you'll have to find a different thread. Sorry I don't have a link for you, but I myself totally avoided spoilers before riding and if you haven't done RotR yet, I strongly suggest you also avoid spoilers.

Before today, some have had to reboot the app after tap in. I don't think that's always required, but perhaps restarting the app while awaiting the virtual gun to go off will become a best practice. Looking forward to reading more app experiences from today.

wow a month? We get just over a week - starts Monday 23rd and then back Jan 2nd
Our kids here get close to that. They are out today and won't return to school till 1/6
I'd say attendance this week was 1/3 of normal too. Why go 2 days (is how many think)
