Rosie’s trip to Orlando. Travelling, arrival and shopping
Day 1 Friday 8th April 2005
Cast – Rosie AKA me 41,
DH Foils 38,
DS John, 10,
DD Alice 8.

The day finally arrived and we were ready at 7.15 for our taxi to Gatwick. This time I made sure I had turned off the gas oven (didn’t remember that last year and came home to a very warm but thankfully unburned house). DS moaned all the way to the aiport about having a dry nose and mouth, which is a side effect of travel sickness tablets. He managed not to be sick this time though. The M25 was chock a block so we detoured through Kent and got to the Airport before 9.00!

The flight was fine, we watched Meet the Fockers which made us all laugh. We flew with BA and everything was good. Seats, service, entertainment and even the food! :flower:

Orlando airport was busy, the queue at the Alamo desk was huge. DH didn’t want to split up and do separate luggage collection and car collection – he was worried we might lose each other. We eventually got away and went to pick up keys to a Villa from Resortquest. Now I’m not going to say a lot about Resortquest because we have an ongoing dispute with them, but I won’t be using them again. :sad2: The Villa was what I expected. A large two bedroom vacation home North of the 192 and very close to WDW. It was a little run down and the neighbourhood looked a bit shabby but all the appliances and plumbing worked, it was clean and it was comfortable. The TV had Nicktoons and Disney Channel so DS and DD were happy.

We went to Publix to stock up on provisions. I was pleased with the selection of foods. There was even a health food section where I was able to buy rice milk and wholemeal bread. DS says he only likes food I have cooked so we agreed a compromise on this Holiday. (Just as well as I had a list of places I wanted to eat!) I agreed that I would let him choose whatever he wanted to eat, even if he chose snacks and junk all the time, some meals I would cook at the Villa and some meals we would eat out. Needless to say I had to cook for him that night because Airline food is no good as far as he is concerned. We spent about £80.00 and got what would have cost about £100.00 back home. DH commented on the 1980’s British music being played over the PA – I think it was The Jam. There must be a middle aged British person working there somewhere! We bought lots of Cookies and Doughnuts and a few healthy things. It was my fault – I had said the kids could choose what they wanted. DD was hyper, but also very tired. We all needed a good night’s sleep and thankfully the beds were comfortable and the streets were quiet, so that’s what we got!

Roll on tomorrow ! :rotfl:
