Hi all,
I told a group of friends that I would ask for places to eat dinner on Thanksgiving. Adults and kids. Less-expensive options. Most will be at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, but food there is quite expensive. Some have mentioned Boston Market (found one not far away, but reviews are awful).

Any other ideas for places open on Thanksgiving, inexpensive, safe neighborhood, appropriate for kids? Doesn't have to be turkey.

The Thanksgiving buffet there is $30/adults, $15/kids-I don't think that is too bad for a Thanksgiving buffet. http://www.hyatt.com/hyatt/images/hotels/chiro/ThanksgivingMenu_CHIRO.pdf

This is a list of local places from the Hyatt website

The price isn't bad, except there are quite a few families that are doing Thanksgiving a different day, and then trying to feed the multitudes on a budget while in Chicago. Smaller families seem to be booking the buffet, larger families seem to be exploring other options. I mentioned that there is a wealth of knowledge on the Disboards, so someone here might know if there are cheaper, regular places to eat in decent neighborhoods an easily driveable distance from the hotel.

I will check out your link, although if it is the same one we all looked at before, it seems to have no chain restaurants.

I just stayed at that hotel last weekend- it was lovely! The only thing in the very immediate area, though, meaning walking distance, was other hotels. I'm sure they all have restaurants inside, so you could look into that. I know tons of great restaurants nearby (Woodfield mall area is about 10 min. away) but not any necessarily open on Tgiving.

thanks, all! Any restaurants on that last link in areas we should avoid? Or is it all ok around there? If it is all perfectly fine, I will make a short list and pass it on.

Thanks!

The neighborhood is fine. The convention center is right next door. Don't know how much walking you want to do with children as it is on quite a busy street. The buffet at the Hyatt O'Hare has been sold out for weeks though. So no chance of getting in for their meal.

Giordiano's Pizza
ROSEMONT
(847) 292-2600
9415 W. HIGGINS RD.

My husband meets friends at Ohare when they have lay overs between flights. This is often requested by his friends.

Don't know if they will be open on Thanksgiving, but if pizza is an option it would be easy enough for you to call.

Also from the Hyatt, you can walk to a Blue line station and take the "EL" Chicago's elevated train for about $3 each way into the loop area. There maybe more options open in the Loop, plus it would provide an activity.

The only city you want to avoid is Maywood at night. Driving through on major roads is fine, you just don't want to get off the beaten path. If you have a car you can go to Oak Park and River Forest they are very nice citys. Brookfield Zoo is also open on Thanksgiving and they are a lot of nice citys near there.

This is in Des Plaines, maybe 20 minutes from the Hyatt. We went there last year for Thanksgiving -- it's a fairly standard buffet, not a huge number of choices, but you can look at the menu. The food was good. They had large tables, good desserts, and the cost is reasonable. They also do a Thanksgiving dinner for homeless and other needy people, which I thought was good for my kids to see.

I was able to call tonight and get reservations for the Hyatt buffet. They had all the time slots still open. Also, although it's still expensive, if you mention that you are with the Irish Dance group, you get $5 off per person.

I posted some of the suggestions mentioned here, and then signed up to do the Hyatt's buffet with our group. And I am definitely thinking that Giordano's pizza is a good idea for a different night there. Thanks, pp! Coinkc, one of these days, we have to actually try to meet up (gives me one more dancer to root for at awards, lol). We're probably watching awards every single day, except maybe Sunday.

Definately! What age groups do your daughter's dance in? Mine will be U14 solos Friday and U15 ceili on Saturday.

Giordanos has fantastic pizza! You definitely won't be disappointed.

If you decide to cancel the buffet at the last minute, the hotel should have takeout menus from places that deliver so you don't even have to leave the hotel to eat. If nothing else, there should be Chinese delivery. Those restaurants never seem to close.

I have a niece dancing just senior girls ceili, a dd doing U12 Traditional Set and u15 girls ceili (all on saturday) and another dd doing u8 mixed ceili on Saturday and u8 solo (1st timer) on Sunday. We are coming in on Thursday because I don't want to rush, arrive Friday afternoon, run around to practice, eat, shower, and get ready to run like mad on Saturday, lol. DD8 wants to watch some solos, so she has more confidence on how it all works. I had the Hyatt points, + gift certificates, so booked 2 nights on certs, 2 nights on points. We will be at awards on Fri and on Sat, for sure. **Crossing fingers that you have a good O this year!**

To the other pp's, I am so happy for all the info. I won't have time to explore options once there so good notes are essential!!:)
