ABC should hold all employees to the same standard. If you can't make racist comments, then you shouldn't be able to make condemning comments about someone's religion. If Mike Pence was a muslim, Joy Behar would have been fired.

Any kind of bigotry should not be tolerated. That should include race, religion, sexual orientation etc.... Otherwise, the network is just being hypocritical. I think networks let this stuff go on for ratings and that’s awful.

While I agree that attacking someone's religion in the way she did was completely wrong, you are, as above posters have pointed out, playing whataboutism. "If you can't make racist comments..." If? IF?? You can't make racist comments. Period. It doesn't matter what others have said, or what has been allowed to be said. You. Can't. Make. Racist. Comments. You also can't make comments disparaging someone's religion, but frankly that's another topic.

Agreed and in my opinion, I only speak for myself, if you are one to do this, I can only assume that you share the same beliefs.

Of course. There's really no reason to defend racist comments or to try to deflect unless you agree.
It's a so stand to me when I see comments dismissing her comments by as just "another excuse to cancel a conservative's show". Why would you want someone like that representing conservatives? Considering there's plenty of negative opinions about how conservatives view race, wouldn't you want to condemn blatantly racist things because that's not how you see conservatives and it doesn't represent conservative beliefs?

Roseanne likened a woman's appearance to that of an APE. Nothing anyone else on that network has ever said can ever come close to likening someone's appearance to that of an APE. So no, to your bolded words, you can't make racist comments. Ever. For any reason. It's disgusting.

It’s possible to think that canning Roseanne was correct and that firing Behar would have been correct. No actual conflict there. Stating that both should be firing offenses isn’t excusing either.

I don't condone what she said but I will miss the show. I very much enjoyed it. I can separate my personal feelings, as I believe I stated earlier on in the thread when some posters just wanted to talk about how they didn't like her, from a character on a show. I had no real issues with Roasanne the character and had looked forward to another season.

I forgot to comment when I watched an episode and I've got 2 recorded but seeing as this thread is just going to be centered around.....I'll just decline on commenting further.

That's wonderful that you can separate the authentic racist Rosanne Barr is from her character and namesake on Rosanne. Unfortunately, a public figure promoting racism on a very public forum is a danger to the greater good.

ETA: Regardless of anything I'm sad the show got cancelled especially after getting renewed first. This thread was originally about the show itself not the actor.

Sure but don't allude that I'm wrong for being able to do that. People say and do things all the time I don't agree with. And while I have no problem with someone saying they are unable to watch something because of something someone said I would expect the same respect from someone else having no problem with me saying I can separate person from character.

No not really-it's only when you force it to be. People were always free to create a "I dislike Rosanne Barr the actress" thread rather than filling up this thread with that.

Perhaps re-read the thread where enough became enough and people just wanted to talk about the show a while back. Now there's not much to talk about the show itself because the show got cancelled. But had it stayed renewed it should have still been just as focused on the show than the dislike of a person.

The network did know and most of her fans did know. Her cast mates knew. That's why it was a bad move on the part of the network to resurrect the show in the first place. It gave a racist scumbag millions of dollars and a platform.

Everyone is now talking about the fact that Rosanne was fired for her actions and all you keep stating is that you can separate the actor from the character. That's great!
