Rose & Crown Seating Fail

We are going to WDW in October with a party of 15, and even though one of the members will be 3 months old and not taking up a seat or anything, we still had to make reservations for 15 (which made things harder because alot of the restaurants only reserve for 14 online...including Rose & Crown) BUT we did it, because it's a fire code thing. They need to account for Everyone in the restaurant, including the 3 month old! I think you were very lucky, especially since they accommodated you so quickly. They did a good job!

It's the R+C in UK pavillion, the staff are British - be grateful eye rolling was all you got! Don't suggest you visit the UK any time soon if eye rolling gives you an attack of the vapours. A week of British service would be enough to require the treatment of paramedics and at least 6 months therapy!
Oh! and just in case anyone takes this to be a slur on the British I am in fact English. (and I have always received excellent service at the R&C)

Well, I have been "Janet"

I used to work as a hostess for a very busy restaurant. Honestly, people should really be more aware and understanding that it is a complicated task to seat a large party in a dining space set up primarily for groups of 2 and 4. 14 IS a large party! You may think "oh, they can just throw 2 more chairs on the ends, but maybe NOT! There are fire codes, other safety considerations, and space limitations, it simply does not always work. It has NOTHING to do with bad customer service. Sometimes it just doesn't work. The fact that they WERE able to make it work to expand the table for your group size? You really under-appreciate that.

Also, if you know Rose and Crown has both indoor and outdoor seating (and they cannot guarantee which you get) AND you know you have an already much more challenging party to seat, and you made it even more of a challenge by adding extra people, WHY would you even think to complain about being in the sun? I mean if you were a small group of 2 or 4, perhaps you could opt to wait longer for another table, but you expected them move your group of 14? I'm sorry, but I don't think that's a very reasonable request.

The 2 "extra" people who planned late to join you, should have noticed your discomfort and offered to sit in the sun, or graciously broken off from the group for this one meal.

Reading through this thread has made me laugh out loud a number of times on my train ride. Great responses - some of you are hilarious! And I'll be singing Rocky Horror Picture Show songs the rest of the day for sure.

That said, I still don't understand why OP and their SO couldn't eat. And if they couldn't eat then they could have left and the table for 12 would have been perfect anyway? :ssst:

First, no one was displaced. Chairs put at end of table. Does not make good restaurant sense to sit 2 people at a table for 12.
Most restaurants don't have tables for 12, they have tables for 4 and push three together to make a table for 12. They probably sat three parties at those tables and couldn't push them together to accommodate you further.

Because they were acting out? Remember when your kids were little and didn't get their way???? Adult version!

Isn't there some kind of a meme somewhere of someone beating a dead horse? Sheesh!

I think the big issue is OP came back and tried to defend themselves. That took it from bad to worse. LOL!

As a general rule if you get NO support for your actions on a thread you might want to consider the validity of your claim!

don't think the computer system works the way you described. It takes the space in your own adr into consideration when trying to add more people.

1) The computer system, does not take YOUR reservation into account when looking for tables or to add guests.
2) It assumes an inquiry is a new reservation request.

The system has allowed me to do just that- example, there was no 6 person table, but there was 2 available, and I was able to modify my reservation to bump my 4 person adr to 6.

That wasn't a new reservation, however, it was modifying an existing one. Which I thought is what the OP was attempting to do.

But you cannot always do that. I tried and was not able. I will continue to look and will add if I can, but if not, someone will not join us. In the meantime I have made an ADR elsewhere fo them.

Yes, I'm going to guess if there is no space, you wouldn't be able to add on. Only if there are that number of slots available.
