Hi Everyone!

For those of you who have eaten at Rose and Crown, how was it? We have a reservation there on the last night of our trip and hope to tie it in with the Illuminations fireworks. Rose and Crown is rarely discussed on the Boards, just wanted to know a) what one would recommend ordering from there, and b) how the ambience is. We looked at the menu on allears and found it to be quite appetizing. There will be four of us dining- two adults and two 20 year olds. We are not on the dining plan for this trip.

Thanks!

We like it. The piano lady is awesome, but I am usually there for a pint of Bass and not the food ;-)

We ate there in 2006 and loved it. We had a res. for just before Illuminations, but were seated inside. They told us to go to the patio to watch and they covered all our plates with silver covers! We did wait a while, even with our res. But the beepers they give you work for a good area and we kept wandering the countries near by.

It was actually one of our best meals that week. We were on the dining plan, so tried more than we normally would have. The steak was great. I got the mushroom soup appetizer and it was unbelievable. I also think the fish/chips was a hit with my kids. We had sticky toffee pudding for dessert and I loved it so much the waitress gave me the recipe. She was very interested too - a police officer from London taking a year off.

I wish we could squeeze this on our next visit in Nov., but still have too many rest. to try before we start repeating!

I've eaten there about 10 times and have loved it every time. The food is great and they have the freshest Guinness I've ever tasted.

We ate there for lunch 2 visits ago (March 2008). I honestly can't remember what I had (some sort of delicious vegetarian dish) but I can tell you this... I like Rose & Crown better than Le Cellier! You're right - I think you don't hear much about it - but I think that's what makes it so great (a very well kept secret). ENJOY!

We had lunch there on 10-9-09 and really enjoyed it. At one point we talked about canceling this ADR but glad we didn't. The new Scotch Egg appie is wonderful. DH and I both ordered the fish and chips, which was a huge portion and very tasty, especially accompanied by an ice cold beer. I was so stuffed but had to try the sticky pudding our server said was just like his grandma made back home. It was very good but very rich....and probably would have tasted better with a cup of coffee than a pint of beer.:rolleyes1

My only complaint would be. We had an ADR for 12 noon (right when they open for the day) and we were able to check in about 10min early. At the podium they had 3-4 people but only one person was actually checking people in. As I was waiting to checkin, I realized everyone one in front of me did not have and ADR, but they were taking walkups. I guess I figured we would be called in first since we were the only one with an actual ADR, but I guessed wrong. The day we were there it was super hot and humid (90 degrees with 90% humidity), and we were looking forward to relaxing in the air conditioning.....but our hostess guided us to a table on the deck in the full sun. I looked at her in amazement and said "oh, no way". She looked shocked and said the deck area was the most prized seating area. I explained that we were expecting to be seated inside and she said she would have to check with the podium. After about min. she came and finally seated us at a nice table inside. Our server was a wonderful young man and he even said he didn't know why they insisted on pushing people outside in the awful heat.

I've had the bangers and mash and the Bailey's trifle, both were quite good.

I have reservations there twice over the years and canceled them that day as I just wasn't in the mood for the menu. Finally went for lunch in March and it was excellent. The room is a bit small but it is like eating in a little village pub. We ordered and shared a couple things. One was a chicken salad that is no longer on the menu. It was very good.the other was the fish and chips which we both loved. We also had the apple cobbler/crisp that was great and the sticky toffee pudding. Mmmmmm. I am headed back to WDW tomorrow and we have a reservation for the rose and crown on Wednesday.

We ate there in March and my DH and I both had the fish and chips. I loved it, my DH thought it was like any other fish and chips that he has eaten in his life (I think he was more into the beer than the food :rotfl:, it was St. Patrick's Day...). We were able to sit outside for our dinner which was really nice, even though it was no where near the time of Illuminations (5pm ADR), it was still nice watching the boats and the other countries. I had the sticky toffee pudding for dessert and that was excellent. Both of my DDs liked the restaurant as well, but I think because they liked being outside. Would we dine here again? Absolutely, but like one PP had mentioned, we have other countries that we want to try out first before we make any repeats.

this is a new place i'm trying in Dec. after seeing pics, recent, in the food porn and wanting to try something new.. this seems to be a place i'm looking forward to trying. I never really liked their menu, but their dinner menu sounds good. i hope i can get the surf and turf. i hope you enjoy it too:)

We've become fans of Rose and Crown, and is a must do on our list. Typically we usually order the same thing:

Potato Leek Soup
Cheese Plate Appetizer (the caramelized onions and candied walnuts are the best!)
Mixed Green Salad
Pork Loin
And definitely some Welsh Dragons (although a few years ago their Special Drink was Yellow Submarine- which is now "known" as our family drink when we have a party)

We would definitely recommend it! :wizard:

I'll be the contrarian here. We didn't care for it. The food was so-so but we had some issues that were not food-related: we arrived hot and tired for our 5:30 ADR and were seated outside. We said we preferred to sit inside in the A/C but the server said 'well that's all full up'. If we had wanted to sit outside we'd have done a CS place. Then a server on the tier above us spilled a whole serving of fries on us. The toffee cake was great tho.

The new Scotch Egg appie is wonderful.

Woo hoo ! A fellow Scotch Egg fan !

We're SO glad they brought them back, they were our favorites for years and years....

We LUV Rose and Crown, as much for the pub and it's atmosphere as for the restaurant itself. Some of the friendliest CM's in all of "the world" can always be found there.

The food falls into the 'not as good as it used to be' category, like most of Epcot's restaurants, IMO, but it's still not bad.

Stick with the basics... Fish and chips, maybe the steak and of course those wonderful eggs.

The view of Illuminations is great if you can get it. One magical trip we walked up an hour before the show without an ADR and asked just for the heck of it if we could be seated tonight. Not only was the answer yes, but we got right out on to the balcony, to boot. :woohoo:

But of course, you can't count on that sort of luck all the time.

everyone is spot on. the fish and chips is a good choice and if you get stuck outside it may tick you off. we spent an hour dodging a psycho squirrel............and it was hot in june this year.

We ate there on St Patricks Day and it was pretty good! I got the Fish & Chips and a Woodpecker Cider (yum!). We were seated out on the patio right by the water so there was a lovely view. We were all pleased with our meals!

We loved Rose and Crown the first and only time we have been to Disney and it is on our list to do again when we got back in September! LOVE It!! It was my favorite meal of that trip--we ate at Le Cellier too and I think this is much better.

the one must do for me on every WDW trip.

recently i had a dinner date and i told her that Rose and Crown is the place to eat. she agreed and we had a wonderful time. we didnt have ADR's, i was the sunday after labor day, but we were seated in about 20 minutes. just enough time for us to browse the shops in the area. i ordered my favorite dish, fish and chips, and she ordered the shepherds pie. we both had a bass ale and the service and food and atmosphere made it a wonderful time for us both.

we will definitely return, at least i hope we do

I'm planning to make an ADR for our upcoming trip. We thought the menu looked appetizing as well.

Could anyone tell me what time we should make our ADR to view Illuminations from the patio? And if we eat inside (January, may be too cold for outdoor dining) can we go out to the patio viewing area for the show? Thanks!
