Rose and Crown - yes or no?

I currently have a reservation for dinner at Rose and Crown on my solo trip in October, and I'm uncertain as to whether I should keep it or not. Ideally, I'd like to go to Le Cellier, but I've so far been unable to find a reservation there at all on my Epcot day, so I thought I'd try Rose and Crown for the fish and chips. I'm trying to expand my palate on this trip, but I'm taking baby steps with it :rotfl:

However, every single review I've read of them here on the Dis has been negative in just about every context. Should I cancel that reservation and book somewhere else (probably somewhere at Y&B, though) or keep it and see how it goes? What's your honest opinion of Rose and Crown?

TIA! :flower3:

We ate lunch there once and enjoyed it very much. It was the very last of the lunch seating, and late August, so it was not crowded. The server was great. We ate fish and vegetarian fare and had no complaints. We would definitely return.

As to the fried fish and chips, it is the same as is served at the QS next door and we have had that so many times I can't count. It is always good.

honestly? It's not the BEST restaurant on property, but we have never had a bad meal there.

The food is consistently good. I think it's more a matter of whether you like the style of food served there. Sometimes, service is a bit lacking, but the servers are college kids so we brush it off.

We usually eat there every trip. We were at WDW last week and didn't have ADRS there, but ended eating there our 1st day for lunch, by choice.

My family enjoys Rose and Crown. Grandma was British and we just tend to migrate there.

In any case---since you want fish and chips...they sell
it for cheaper at the counter service place adjacent to the pub. That way--If you didn't care for it, it wasn't a huge pinch to your pocketbook.

My honest opinon---we enjoy the place, but for some reason I find their menu limited and I haven't a clue of why I think that. We enjoy their bangers and mash. That is sausage and mashed potatos.

For my family---it's a comfort food type place. We also enjoy Raglan Road.

Part of the lack of appeal might be that the English aren't well known for their cuisine and maybe folks don't care for the food?

But again--since you are unsure, I'd try the fish and chips place next door.

So it sounds like some people like them :lmao: I guess since they serve the same fish and chips at the little counter next door, I'll just grab lunch there and do dinner someplace else.

Thanks for your help! :flower3:

It is an okay restaurant, especially its desserts. I find its atmosphere to be substially better than Le Cellier, but the food at Le Cellier is significantly better.

Personally, though, I'd aim for someplace better than both: Chefs de France. I feel it is better than both, and if available, surely a better choice than Rose & Crown, food-wise.

We don't like it at all - dirty, subpar food, non-existent server and major kitchen screw ups during our March trip. We won't eat there again. By the way, you can get the exact same fish and chips at the CS place outside the restaurant - much cheaper!

Not a big fan of Le Cellier either - very overrated. I agree with Bicker, that there are much better WS restaurants to eat at.

Good luck, Tiger :)

I have heard that the CS next to Rose and Crown has great fish and chips! I would order here, grab a beer (if you like) and see if there is a show or band playing at the stage area. We were there last year and an awesome band played around dinner time:) Fun!!

I don't qualify as a "foodie" by any means but we had a lovely meal there last year. Granted we sat outside and had a view of Illuminations so the atmosphere helped but I thought the food was pretty good too. I had a nice salad and I think the entree was called cottage pie. Like shepherd's pie but with cheesy potatoes. I say go for it!

In the past, we've LOVED Rose and Crown, but I was a little disappointed in the fish and chips the last time we were there. The portion size was smaller and they removed the delicious baby peas from the plate altogether. Our other problem has been the service, which I've found to be notoriously slow. We've tried to get dinner reservations around 7:15-7:30 so that we can watch the Illuminations fireworks from either their patio or the viewing area. However, our wait for a table has grown each year (and I'm not one of those people who INSISTS on sitting on the patio). This year, we waited about 45 minutes past our ADR time and between cranky kids and my mom having a gall bladder flare up, we decided it wasn't worth waiting any longer. We went back to the hotel food court and missed Illuminations, which was disappointing. I don't think I'm going to include Rose and Crown on my next itinerary. There are so many great places to eat in Epcot that I'm not going to miss the food.

We had lunch there last Sunday and loved it. Sure, we could have stood in line for the CS fish and chips since that's what we ordered, but it was about 1000 degrees out and we wanted to take a nice break in some a/c!

DH and I dined there in March at opening for lunch. We were literally the first people seated. Our service was amazing. He was on top of refills and anything we wanted. Even when the restaurant quickly filled up while we were nevcer forgotten or ignored. I loved my salad and burger, like I have dreams of that salad and I am trying to figure a way to get in in Dec. Dh had the fish and chips and the scotch egg. He loved the scotch egg but was not blown away by the fish and chips.

It seems that not matter what you will always get one good with one bad review. Although from the reviews and my experiance earlier sittings are the best bet for good service and food.

we ate there on the 9th of July. We had no ADR's we had to wait 10 minutes (and they were packed). We (4 of us) had fish n chips, surf and turf x2, cottage pie, 1 Chocolate Scotch Cake and 1 Sticky Toffee Pudding.

We had a great waitress our drinks never got empty and our food was good and served quick.

This is the one restaurant we have to go to on every single trip- we love it there! I've never encountered an unfriendly CM at Rose and Crown nor have any of us ever had a bad meal. It's a great spot for watching Illuminations if you have a later dinner reservation. The only "disappointment" I ever had was when they discontinued my favorite dessert. Still, I'd definitely recommend it. They do have a surf and turf option that includes steak and fish; it's what I usually order and it has been consistently good. Good luck with whatever you decide! :goodvibes

We love R&C and eat there each trip. Granted, it's not gourmet but it's very good. Never had a problem with cleanliness but sometimes the servers are a little slow. This doesn't bother us because we always plan for a leisurely dinner after we've spent a long day in the parks.

My DH and I had dinner at R&C last year, and we liked it! I had the fish and chips, and I have to admit, the fish and chips from the counter service next door are MUCH better! I'd like to go back there during Illuminations and sit outside, but right now, there are other places in Epcot I'd like to try before returning here! :)

I like R&C and we'll be eating there next month. It's comfort food IMO and I've certainly never seen the place dirty. Service can be slow but we've run into that in various places at times.
