Rope drop RnRC?

I’m thinking about rope dropping RnRC on our DHS day next week, and I can’t tell if it’s a bonkers idea or not.

We have G+ and intend to get ILL for RoTR and MMRR. I will aim to pick up SDD for my first G+ at 7am and MFSR for my second one at 11am (if we haven’t tapped into SDD before that).

I just don’t feel like racing any crowds. We are staying at Swan and Dolphin and are early risers, we like doing rope drop just to be there bright and early. The idea of turning right when everyone turns left sounds perfect.

But is RnRC as peaceful as I’m hoping for an 8:30 early entry? Would love to hear if anyone’s done something similar!

ETA:Am I putting myself at a big disservice by not at least rope dropping MFSR? It’s 8:25am right now and the G+ return time for MFSR is 2:30. If I don’t rope drop it, will I have trouble getting G+ LL for it at 11am?

Here is my "recipe"

For DHS rope drop--

Be at transportation 90 minutes early so you are truly part of the first wave......and they all go to Star Wars Land.

You go to MMRR.....and wait there.....you will be in and out in no time.

Then go to RnRC.....you will be off by about 855....then walk to Tot and get in line (just before the public arrives)

You will be off Tot by about 8:10 and will have knocked out 3 rides in 40 minutes.

I have done this was several times.

Usually SDD is my first G+ ride sometime later in the day.

We stayed at YC in November and rope dropped RNRC- walked right on, then moved to ToT with a short wait 15/20 min. From there we were able to go to MMRR and had about a 30 minute wait (I think we timed it just right between the initial EE wave and regular park hours).
We arrived at DHS entrance 20-30 minutes before EE and were in the middle of the crowd

My plan is to go to “tier 2” rides at RD. I will do G+\ILL for the headliners. That’s how I did the parks during FP+. I would get FP+ for the headliners and go elsewhere at RD. I can’t do the crazy crowd crush run at RD. I will add we do 2 days at each park and this helps us spread it out.

I have been checking the app periodically and smugglers is usually always available at 11 am.

Yeah, this is my thinking. We were there in October right after they ended virtual queue for Rise but just days before Genie+ launched. We were there at 6:30 am I think, did the crazy race, and I’m just not interested this trip. I’m still happy to be there early but I don’t want to rush with the crowd!

I will add I’ve read a few reports of people who’ve done this during G+ and it worked well for them.

Reports are that very few go to RnRC and ToT at 8:30.

According to thrill-data, MFSR has had evening LL times available at 11:00 am during this past week, and I suspect the same thing will be true this coming week.

But if you plan to be there Presidents Week, it could be a whole different story. I suggest checking out MFSR availability at 11:00 am at thrill-data.com, starting next Saturday.

Thanks. We leave Friday the 18th, so hoping to miss the bulk of the President’s Day crowd.

OP,

We LOVE RnRC and ToT enough to rope drop them as well. And based on our experience last summer, it is a nice way to stay out of the Galaxy's edge, SDD, MMRR rope drop madness.

For questions like yours, I would recommend getting familiar with thrill-data.com

I've recently been scouring it based on other DIS members mentioning it. It's a wealth of information regarding when G+'s tend to run out for a particular ride, and even what return time you can estimate it you were, say to book MFSR at 11:00am

To answer your question, it does look like most days there will still be G+ available at 11:00am. You will want to be right on top of it and don't delay though. See the map below for when it runs out historically, again courtesy of thrill-data.com ...and taking today as an example, if you booked MFSR at 11am you would have gotten at return time somewhere around 5pm. Crowds affect this greatly though so your mileage may vary. Hope this helps.

I am fairly local and go often and have never used Genie+ so I can't help with that, but I just wanted to mention that in my experience RnRC often doesn't open as early as the other rides. I don't know if this is on purpose or if it just happens sometimes, but we've gone straight to RnRC more than once to have them hold the line for 20 or 30 minutes.

Turning down Sunset Boulevard and hitting TOT and RNRC first has been our approach on 3 out of 3 days that we have started at DHS since G+ started. I don’t think it’s bonkers at all, especially if avoiding a crowd is your main objective.

We have been arriving at DHS early by bus, usually just before they let people into the park. Almost nobody else goes that way that early so we have been near the front of the line forming for TOT (we choose to go there first and then to RNRC). Until about 8 AM it’s been a pretty intimate group. Our daughters usually go to Starbucks before the line forms there while I get in line and they join me after they get their drinks. If anyone wants to use the restroom before the rides open, they are right there and nobody cares if someone leaves the line for that and comes back.

On our 3 days there they let people into the rides twice at 8:30 and once at 8:20. On one day RNRC did not open, but it had been down for most of that week. We have always gotten on to the first elevator at TOT and when we got off there on the days RNRC was open we went right to RNRC through the single rider line and were out of there before 9 AM.

We then went to TSMM before using our early LL for SDD.

Even though it sounds like the Galaxy’s Edge rides open before 8:30 we like the Sunset Boulevard approach because it is less congested and we can do two of our favorite attractions before the lines build up, which they do pretty quickly.

One way I look at it is that we can still do MFSR later, either with G+ or standby. If our SDD LL is early enough, we might be in position to look for that before 11, increasing our chances of getting something. Standby is also an option because that would probably be the only significant line we’d be waiting in, and that wait might be less than the waits for RNRC or TOT or both.

My biggest suggestion if you want to do it this way is to get there before 8. The lines at those rides do eventually stretch back toward Hollywood Boulevard and it will take significantly longer to get through both rides than if you get there 15 minutes earlier.

This is what we do. Don’t worry about LL for MFSR- that line tends to get shorter at the end of the day
