Rope Drop Questions

Hi there everyone.

So we have done this once many years ago when our kids were, well, still kids!
I'd like to take my niece during next weeks trip. We will be in the MK on Wednesday the 9th. Do they still do rope drop at the opening of the park? If so, how much earlier does it start then the posted opening hour of the MK? What time should we get there to see it? The park opens at 8:00 am. How long does it last and is there anything else we need to know?

Are you wanting to know about rope drop? Or about the MK Welcome Show where the mayor of Main Street and the characters welcome everyone to the MK for the day? The welcome show begins 15-20 minutes or so before the posted park opening time, or the EMH opening time if it's a morning EMH day. Rope drop is just the process of officially opening the park and letting guests loose, and happens either at the posted opening time or, I've heard, a few minutes prior to the posted opening time (or EMH opening time). If you are wanting to see the welcome show, I'd recommend getting to the MK about 30 minutes prior to opening, so that you have time to get through security before the show starts. Others may recommend more time, but I find this to be plenty of time, including walking from the bus area and getting through the bag check.

Welcome show starts about 20 minutes prior to park opening. There's multiple variations of the show..one includes characters coming in on the train, another is the characters just walking out on the platform if the train is down..you won't know what show you get until you see it.

Also important to know about Extra Magic Hours or regular parking opening.

-Regular opening: about 20 min prior to park opening
-EMH opening: about 20 min prior to start of EMH
-EMM ticketed event: about 20 min prior to regular park opening. It's not done for the EMM guests.

As far as how early to get there..I'd recommend about 45 min before park opening. Some people like to get there earlier to be closer to the front to be ahead of the crowd when the park opens. When you go in MK past security and you're waiting with the crowd, if you're too close to the gates up front you won't have a good view of the show. Better to be a little further back

With RD at 8 am on the 9th, the welcome show will probably start around 7:40. I'd want to be going through the tapstiles by 7:30, and you can plan your travel accordingly. If parking at the TTC, I'd probably want to be parked by 7 so I could be catching the monorail or ferry by 7:10-7:15.

Thanks for the great info. So if park opens at 8 we should be there by 7:20ish. I will find out what time the early bus leaves the BW and try to be on it!!

All of the resort to park buses will be rolling by between 6:00 and 6:30AM, daily.
