I have never been to a park at rope drop. I plan on making it to 2 on our next trip. I keep reading that CMs walk guests to certain rides at rope drop. Do you have to stay with one of these groups? I really just don't understand it. Can someone explain this to me?

They control the speed and direction that guests takr. You can go to any ride you want

exactly - for example one group of CMs with their handy rope leads you to TSM - if you want to go to Launch Bay first thing - follow them and when you are at that point - the CMs will go "left" Towards TSM and you'll go straight towards Launch Bay. IN theory they are making sure people don't go nuts and take off running to TSM, the safari, EE, 7D , Anna/ Elsa etc

I really appreciate the forced slow pace of walking behind the ropes. Much prefer that than a stampede while trying to hold on to my kids.

On the two days last week we did RD at MK, approximately 98% of the people there were going to the 7DMT which obviously makes it a great time to do ANYTHING else!
