Rope drop for FOP is a mob be warned

The stats just don’t seem to back up what you’re saying. FOP wait time today peaked at around 11:15. The wait times were shorter at RD. Tomorrow’s forecast for FOP has it peaking around 2-3 in the afternoon, with RD waits for FOP again being shorter.
To be fair for months after it first opened the highest wait times were in the morning right at RD. It may have adjusted over time however.

IDK if they are keeping up to date as much (as I haven't really kept up on the thread) but there is this thread: https://www.disboards.com/threads/official-pandora-the-world-of-avatar-information-thread.3587311/

My point is, that for this one attraction, the first thing in the morning is the busiest time with the longest lines. There are better options throughout the day that will take less time and be less stressful.

If you’re toward the front of the “herd” the wait time is much less than it is at any other time of day.

If you don’t arrive until after 9, then yes you are correct that it would be more time efficient to wait until later in the day.

Not even sure how it’s possible for someone using TP to have an “actual wait time” of 240 minutes just 10 minutes after opening. I thought the actual wait time feature clocked someone’s time in the queue from the time they entered it till the time they got into the ride. Obviously the math doesn’t add up if that’s the case.

240 minutes was the posted wait time, so that must have been what they were listing.

We rode yesterday at rope drop and I did not witness any of the behavior the OP mentioned. Sure, some people who walk faster may pass others, but I wouldn’t consider that “cutting”.

We arrived at 8:15 so we were toward the middle of the “herd”. It was shoulder to shoulder, but there certainly wasn’t any pushing or running (wasn’t any room for that). Everyone around us was pleasant and people were chatting when stationary and watching out that other people’s kids were not separated when moving.

We were off the ride before 9:30. (Posted wait time was 4 hours and the line seemed to stretch out toward the park entrance.)

Touring Plans posts the posted wait, the projected wait and the actual wait, if any are reported. From what I can tell, someone got in line st 9:10 am and they waited 240 minutes.

Today's numbers are estimates. The numbers I quoted are actuals from yesterday. Touring Plans posts a lot a data the next day. For FoP, the common theme is the longest waits are early in the morning then decrease steadily throughout the day. Their chart resembles an old-time revenues chart of a company going out of business.

A few weeks ago, I posted stats for a day where the posted wait was 210 at 9:10 am with an actual wait of 240.

By 8:50 pm, the posted wait was down to 60 with an actual wait of 30.

That's a big difference.

Is the crowd numbers at rope drop better on emh or non emh days? Assuming you are staying on property.

Well my mom told me her legs are black and blue where the guy shoved her. She was shoved into a pole. She tried to hide it from me because she knew I would flip out.

I wish I could have shown guest relations. I told her to get a picture and I am calling Disney and going off. This is unacceptable.

That is terrible! I guess this is a good warning for some people.

I feel like poop that I put her into that situation.
Don't be so hard on yourself. It's not like you can control how other people were going to behave in that situation.

If only there was a civility and politeness mustard gas we could spray over people. :)

well we have talked and my hubs say we will still do the Early rope drop our day, it will be a weekday in the middle of the week and an emh day too. hoping no one gets hurt. I would defiantly turn in the pic then maybe someone will see its such a bad issue.

A good way to handle it is go ahead and let the super early birds like us go ahead and walk to the ride and wait in an actual ride line. All they would have to do is staff a few CMs to just keep an eye on it. Then that prevents a mass mob.

This is genius.

There were many groups who sent a runner ahead - then the rest of the group would just line jump to join them. Where the line doubles back on itself when it heads down the backroad to Africa and then back, line jumping was rampant. Some were people who were joining their runner, but others were just bare-faced cutters.

Here's an account- with photos - of the same situation you experienced, back in August.

Sorry you got caught up in all that. We RD'd FOP 2x on our August trip and I decided that I'd rather wait in line during the last hour of park time than to try to RD it again. People were trying to push past our group at every turn and it was aggravating to have to keep putting my arms out to keep us together.

I envision a large enough group that could you all link arms across the path to prevent the runners from cutting ahead. But they are so aggressive - they would still find a way. I've seen very little effort to combat this.

The lines we saw last week were jaw-dropping. It put the Frozen line to shame. I saw people cutting in line (and we weren't even IN line). We saw arguments. It was rough.
I think FP are easier to get now, and more open up closer to travel dates. I booked 2 FP on different days for FOP right when the system opened to book for our stay. It was zero drama. With FP, literally walked on. No stops, just strolled in with a stream of other people.

I’m sure “going off” on customer service will help the situation.

I walked off FOP About 18 minutes ago l, at 8:55am after RDing this morning - we got dropped off by our Uber at 7:30 and were first at the turnstiles 5th from the left. We walked quick but didn’t run and managed to stay at the front of the group and were spots 2 and 3 on the first ride of the day. I found it to be a pleasant experience, we had a lovely chat with the cast members at the holding points and everyone around us was really nice - BUT, looking behind me at the masses of people, I wouldn’t want to be a part of that.
But if you can get there early and keep up with the front - in my mind, RD was absolutely worth it. No way would I be trying that with kids or if I wasn’t able to walk quickly.

It always works for me.

Some times you have to be worked up enough to "go off" before you make the effort of calling guest services.

We all owe a debt to the guests from years past who've taken the time to complain about things that needed to change - and which were changed because of guest comment. And Disney wouldn't engender the love and loyalty that it obviously does, if it didn't know how to listen - and implement change.

love hearing this. I am planning on being there about that time. Was it an Emh am for you today? I am hoping our RD is a good one, even on touring plans, it says 45min wait after 8 am, so If it happens to be that long ill be fine. We do have a teen with us so it's not like we would need to rush with little ones. we will do our best to stay at the front of the pack but not going to be a bully or bullied either. glad to hear it is working sometimes.
