Rooms for cash discount, but not points!

I'm confused! :confused3 I understand that sometime you can book a room through Disney and not through DVC with points, as those are a different bank of rooms. But i was not able to get a Night with points, but i could get it with a DVC cash discount! Now i would think those rooms should be from the same bank of DVC rooms? I booked the room with cash, as its right in the middle of my vacation, and they left me on the wait list. They said they would cancel the cash room, if a room for points came through. Has anyone else had this happen?

While CRO does not have access to the member inventory until 60 days ahead, MS does have access to the cash inventory available thru CRO.

It sounds like there is nothing available using points but , due to members using points for non-DVC options, there is cash availability ( and even with the DVC discount).

Glad you got the dates you need. Hopefully something will open up with the waitlist.

Enjoy!

Very interesting. I guess I learned something. I, too, thought that rooms available at the member discount were rooms that WOULD (or would be expected to) be turned over to MS and could therefore always be booked on points. Didn't realize that discounted rooms could be rooms that already were turned over or that those rooms could not be booked on points. My interp had always been the same as the OP. Very interesting. I always thought that member discount rooms were part of breakage income, which they wouldn't be under Doc's interp. So, what determines whether they can have a room using the member discount rate as opposed to the CRO rate?

It would be interesting to know the timeframe involved with this reservation. I'd guess it is for a reservation in the near future since they may have an idea what the likely availability is for that timeframe. It can also depend on the room type for the discounted availability.

For most dates, my understanding is that the discounted cash rate won't be available right at 11 months, but may open up within 6 months. However, I have gotten the discounted rate at 11 months for a GV at HH (Sat nite).

Since CRO has all sorts of discounts available ( many of which we never hear about since they are targeted rates ), including AP rates, I'm not at all surprised that these cash nights are available thru MS when point reservations (from member inventory) are available only thru the waitlist.

I would be a little surprised if this was offered for a reservation more than 6 months in advance - but, then again, Disney often seems to have a way of surprising me! :thumbsup2

I always thought that the member discount rooms came from points inventory, that's why no housekeeping but you get DVC perks. If it came from CRO, technically they should give you housekeeping, like when you book an AP discount room (but no perks).

When we have paid cash we got housekeeping. :confused3

When I paid cash with the member discount, I did not get housekeeping, I thought that was in the DVC rules (I've done it 2 or 3 times). My cash nights were at the beginning of my stay and added to the points nights for housekeeping (trash & towel was day 4 of the combined reservation). When I paid cash through CRO (AP rate), I did get housekeeping.

That was my understanding, too. I wonder if what is going on here is that a discount equivalent to the Member's Discount is being given on a CRO room rather than an actual Member's Discount. That would seem to be a possibility, too.

I think most member cash rooms are actually cash equivalent points exchanges such as DCL, CC or DC.

Is the cash discount reservation for SSR by any chance? If so, you could be getting a room out of the Developers' inventory. Those rooms were never available to members for points, but my understanding is that the Developer does make them available to members for the cash discount.

I always thought that Developer inventory was the impetus for the cash discount program and that MS continued to offer it when the resorts sold out (to pay for non-DVC choices by members) because it was better for members than paying CRO's "commission". (Good deal for the member getting the discount and more $$ for the "payment option" or for "breakage income" account or etc.). It's a theory - could be wrong.

Best wishes -

No its for the BCV, It during the Food and Wine Fest. So i can see why they didn't have a room for points, but was very surprised when they said they had a room for a cash discount! I took it, as i have Sunday and Monday, and Wednesday and Thursday. But i need that Tuesday in the middle. So i have 3 ressies, i hope i don't have to move. :)

As long as your ressies are linked with MS, you won't have to move. We have done this many times.

The member discount rate never seems to be available for us. Tried last Oct at WL in 2 br and again in January for studio. This time I have SSR 2 br and no room discount for Nov 3-11th. I am going to pay for 3rd and 4th and pts for the remainder. I asked the CM if there was any discount anytime I was there because I could've shuffled things around if I could save some money. Is there any rhyme or reason to how these rooms discounts are offered?
I was thinking since we have AP to check with CRO to get AP discount room if a code comes up for that time of year. What would you all do? :confused3
