My Roomba battery finally died. I can't believe how much they are charging for a replacement on the roomba web site. Has any one ordered a generic one from someplace else? and do you think that it lasted as long as the name brand one?:confused3

I saw some on Amazon.com and I saw a site that told you how to replace the cells in the battery you have now and get it work for cheaper. Hope that helps!:confused3:goodvibes

Our "Robbie" also needs a new heart. I saw them on line at Target.com. They do not have them in the store. They are about as expensive as open heart surgery!

Are you sure it's dead? Sometimes you have to completely discharge it. You take the battery out of roomba and then hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds. Then put the battery back in and it will charge for a long time. After that it runs a lot longer than before.

I'm curious, too. Ours died this past weekend. It lasted 3 years and we're now looking for a new battery. I think we're going to order the generic one through the 3rd party that's selling them on Amazon.

I think that's where I got mine last summer. So far it's working fine, but it does make a funny whirring noise that it didn't make before I changed batteries.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I am worried about buying the generic one because the reviews do not seem to be as good. The budget part of me says to save the money and buy generic and just see what happens. On the other hand, I am not saving any money if I have to go out and buy a second battery in 6 months.

I am pretty sure the battery is discharged/dead. It was already doing very short cycles and then it sat off its base for two months. There was no power when I tried to start it and the red light flashed when I set it on it's base. I did the reset and the red lights keep flashing. The battery is about 3 years old, so I probably had it a lot longer that most batteries last anyway.

Thanks for the link. I will go check that out.

Chances are it is the Roomba that is dead and NOT the battery. I had this happen 2x and it was the Roomba unit, not the battery both times.

Rechargeable batteries will only recharge so many times before they won't take a charge any more. My roomba is over 3 years old. That's about the average life of this type of battery. Mine is telling me the battery is dead as soon as it comes off the charger.

:rotfl2:, I didn't know that they could die:confused3:eek:, thanks for that info, I will give it to my friend who thought she too needed a new battery!

I learned the hard way - thought my battery was dead the 1st time and bought a new one. It still didn't work. Called irobot and the rep told me that the battery is almost NEVER the issue. That time, the Roomba was still under warranty so they sent me a brand new Roomba unit. 3 years later, the same thing happened, so I tried my extra battery and it still didn't work. I bought a new Roomba.

Oh my Robbie dead?! It will be like loosing a family member! I am going to try taking the out and see if that helps.
