I am thinking about the possibility of makeing a spur of the moment trip to WDW on Thursday morning Jan. 3, 2002. I will be driveing down. Possibly staying over night Thurs. night at Disney's Hilton Head resort. Won't know if we stay overnight at HH, depends on how tired we are of driveing. So my question to all of you is this.

Is it OK to arrive at a DVC resort, walk up to the check in desk, without a reservation, show your DVC member card, and ask for a room? Assuming that there is a vacancy, can we get it? Using DVC points. I think the question I am trying to ask is can you get a vacant, unreserved, room without a reservation?

DUMBO, I LIKE your style;) .............. you are BORN TO BE WILD !!!!!!!!:D

Yes and No.

Basically, the resorts don't have access to your account. So if you arrived during regular MS hours, and the resort has a vacancy, , then I would think they would just call MS and make the arrangements right then.

If you arrived later, after MS reservations has closed, then you may be in trouble. The resort would have no way to know if you even had any points available.

Anybody out there actually done this? I'm curious too.

The closest we ever came to this was once we had plane reservations on NW when they were on strike. We could only get alternate reservations for flights the day before we had planned to travel, which happened to be Labor Day. I called MS the night before to find if anything was available. It was, and they booked me an extra night. That was just 24 hours ahead, but not at the resort itself.

Dumbo --- You can always call Member Services ahead of time to find out what the room availability is, and since it's a week day, perhaps you could decide by 4 or 4:30 if you want to stay, and then call MS and find out if you could book.

One thing to your advantage is that Thursday night is the one night MS stays open later.

We stayed at VWL on a Friday night back in October. On Saturday morning (MS was closed), we asked the front desk if we could stay another night. They allowed us to do so on points. MS was not open, so they could not have had access (thru MS) to our points. But, somehow they knew and we were able to stay.

We have added days to stays when MS was closed and we were already there at OKW. Front Desk does have some access to our records and did the point transaction. If MS was opened we would of called them. This was on a weekend,

I'm going to go with the theory that they do have access because when Tanya and I were last at the Boardwalk we asked for a room upgrade and they were able to check our point balance and tell us that we didn't have enough points to cover the cost :(

On the other hand, it was pretty cool that they were able to do that and would have been able to make the change if we had the points available...
