Has anyone ever upgraded their DVC room upon arrival at resort. We have a reservation at AKV for a studio sv room. However, they only have that room available for 1 day of our stay. I can get a reservation for standard view for additional days and was wondering if I could upgrade upon arrival at WDW. I see that Disney has those rooms available thru their reservation system but not DVC.

Sometimes, though it's not frequent, you can get a different room on the day you check-in but it won't be a free upgrade. You will pay any point difference.

The rooms you are seeing on the CRO website are not available for points and will sit empty rather than be booked for points. Members dont "own" those rooms and therefore can't access them for points.

I have learned the hard way to not change anything. You run the risk of getting your points messed up and it can take several days to fix the problem.

What can happen, if there is room available upon check-in, is that the resort may cancel your current reservation, and rebook the new room. The problem is,that resort managers are not that familiar with points, and the cancelled points go into holding, then they will use "new" points, even borrowing, to book the new reservation. You would the need to try to straighten out your account with member services...which is usually not a big problem...but there have been instances of it being difficult. Personally, I would not try to do anything at check-in.

But I would continue to call very often (especially the week before, when there may be last minute cancellations) in an attempt to obtain the type of room you want. And now it's so each to check the DVC website and see what's available!

Good luck!

Thank you for the information. Ended up getting additional nights. :)
