Room Service @ the DVC

OKW and SSR do not offer room service.

BCV, BWV and VWL offer room service because they share facilities with a traditional WDW hotel/resort.

Which DVC resorts if any, offer room service?

All of the ones I stay at do. When I wake up, I always find some kind of breakfast and coffee waiting for me in the kitchen. My DW tells me that it is a special DVC room service!;) Sure is less expensive than the other kind of room service.

When staying at BWV, it is also possible to get any menu item from any of the boardwalk restaurants through room service. Of course these items are at a higher price through RS than if purchased at the restaurant.

The thing that holds me back from staying at OKW and SSR is the lack of room service. I am hoping SSR adds a sit down restaurant in the future, so there would be room service.

I know some care less about room service, but when you are tired there is nothing better!
:D

CoolDisneyCat - I agree completely - the one fault of OKW is no real room service - I can't eat pizza - so the pizza deliver does not impress me - I got told they also delivery sandwiches - but I don't think the extra charge for room service is worth a sandwich.....

So one of my first stops after checking in is the grocery store.

I thought SSR was to have room service????this is something I thought all the new DVC resorts would have.

a full time restuarant does not guaranteed room service - OKW has always had a full time restuarant - you can pre order and come pick it up yourself (OKW version of room service) - but again why bother.....

Folks, you have to remember that DVC is a timeshare. Not many timeshares around have room service. Those at WDW that happen to be with a hotel are special in that regard.

dianeschlicht - the other timeshares I have stayed at in Orlando - not to mention HH and Williamburg - had a list of the food deliveries in the area - their menu -

OKW only has their pizza delivery - and it is pretty bad.

they could easily do more - they just don't want off property coming to their resorts - since they refuse to have room service - they should at the very least have the restuarants that will delivery - be able to on WDW property - so far WDW/DVC has refused to do this.

I think in the last place either Marriott or Hilton there were around 30 restuarants that would deliver.

The perfect solution to this would be for Earl of Sandwich, whose prices are fairly reasonable, to add 15% or 20% and offer delivery to OKW and SSR. Their sandwiches are very tasty and they have nice salads as well as soup.

From the August 2003 Member Clubhouse:

"Speaking with Disney Vacation Club Members, Lori and her team heard that variety isn't just the spice of life; it's what Members expect at the new Resort. Not only will additional menu items be offered, Resort Guests will have choices of how items are served to them: delivery to a Vacation Home, grab-and-go (taking items back to your Vacation Home or anywhere else), and grab-and-sit (eating either at one of the tables inside or outside by the pool). "

I wonder if perhaps they are waiting until the resort has reached some point of critical mass to offer delivery service. Either that or it was scrapped sometime after this was written.

I've never done it myself but many people have talked about ordering all kinds of offsite food at OKW. I don't think they do prevent delivery of Chinese food, other pizza, etc.

Believe me, if my husband expected me to get up early on my vacation so that he could have breakfast and coffee waiting for him in the kitchen, it would end up costing a heck of a lot MORE than a mickey waffle through room service! :)

I don't think they prevent anyone from delivering to OKW but they certainly won't advertise for their competitors. They'd rather you go out and eat in a disney restaurant.

More than a timeshare, it is supposed to be our home away from home, I don't know about others, but, I don't have room service here at my outside of Disney home.

We have had pizza hut delivery at OKW (before 9/11). Perhaps, since 9/11 they have tightened security and for our benefit don't allow deliveries from outside sources.

They do have telephone books in the rooms and who can blame them for not advertising their competitors? Most hotels that do advertise get compensated for it. With all the restaurants that Disney has on prem. why would they want to?

Gail you have made some very good points. The hotels that have the menus and advertisments in the room are getting paid by those paticular places and advertising fee.

Wouldn't it be nice to have room service at home ;)

Yes, room service at home would be wonderful!!!!

Granted, this is true. But I didn't buy any ol' time share, I bought DVC knowing the super service at the resorts. I am very happy staying at BCV and BWV. We are staying at VWL the first time in Dec.

I just love room service! When I have choice of having it or not, I will be picking the resort that has it. That is one of the cool things about DVC. You have a variey to chose from. I hope it works out to have room service at SSR.

I have recently inherited 2 weeks thru Marriott and I know not to expect room service even at an ocean front at HHI. It certainly won't stop me from going, I'll just have to suffer!
