I think you can start ordering room service once you get in your stateroom. Room service has a cheese platter called the All Hands on Deck. It usually takes around 15 to 30 minutes for it to arrive. So you could order it around 30 minutes before the ship leaves port and it should be in your room in time.
You can order things to be waiting in your room ahead of time. You can go to DCL website or you can wait until they send you the information with your documents.
Or you can wait and get the cheese tray for free by ordering it when you get into your room. Take a bottle of wine with you and you are set. That is the cheap way.
I'm not clear as to whether your concern is getting food in your room right after boarding or getting something to eat after boarding. The lunch buffet on deck 9 stays open till about 4. The buffet in Parrot Cay is also open late on boarding day.
Room service (and all other ship services) close for the safety drill. I thought that room service was not at all available until after the safety drill, but I could be wrong on that. My suggestion would be to place bathing suits in your carry on luggage. Board, then go to Parrot Cay for lunch. Then, head to the pools. They are virtually deserted on boarding day, and it is a great activity for the kids prior to the safety drill.
