I made my room requests when I called wdw for my reservations, should I follow up with a fax to my resort one week prior to my arrival? Will this make a difference?

No need to fax if you already have your requests noted in your reservation. Most resorts are ignoring faxes.

I've requested specific buildings on requests, and of all my stays, only twice did I get that building. A request is just that, a request. Unfortunately it is by no means a guarantee. However, I must add that this weekend, I got my request. It was the exact room I requested. This makes it twice since 1992 that I got my request. All other stays I didn't get my request. Often I got the building next door to my requested building.

The more specific you are with requests, the more likely you are to not get them. A request for a general area or view is much easier for a room assigner to fulfill than a request for a specific room oe very specific area.

The more realistic your requests, the better the chance you won't be disappointed.

At the time I made ressies, I requested connecting rooms. we're traveling with grandma and grandpa (seniors), so if I request something on a lower level they may try to accomodate that?

I did my ressies on line. What do you do when you don't speak to someone? There is not a spot for requests when you book online.
Should I call when it gets close to time?
Thanks!

Rumor has it that the volume of faxes became so overwhelming that most faxes are now just thrown away...

The issue of granting requests also rests on the time of year that you go. I was hesitant to include preferences on my last ressie (didn't want to seem so high-maintenance.. :rotfl2: ), which was for December 2004. When we checked in, the CM was very considerate and ask plenty of questions re: views, smoking/non, specific buildings, etc. I would imagine that this type of treatment is dependent, not only on the individual, but also on how busy the resort is.
