I was thinking it also incentivizes people to arrive earlier before check in which might drive incrementally more spending at parks and restaurants.

Interesting. We come from the west coast generally and I don’t want a free waterpark ticket enough to travel via redeye—but now I’m thinking maybe I’ll stay at the airport night one and try to arrive early day 2 so that we can make a room request, then we have the waterpark to keep us busy in the meantime.

We happen to be doing a waterpark this trip because we’re coming after a cruise…but I wouldn’t have planned around them…though my kids don’t really know that BB and TL exist yet, so perhaps they will love it and I’ll need to start working them into our trips more.

I tried twice via chat to make a request for AKL Jambo in May- I requested to be on a Ostrich trail. We had a Savanna view studio. They both told me I couldn’t make such a request until I arrived at the hotel so I just gave up trying to put in a request.

Were the CMs correct or should I have requested it in a different way?

The CMs were correct. There are no savanna view villas located on Ostrich trail. All savanna view (and former standard/now resort view) villas at Jambo are on Kudu or Zebra trail or directly above the lobby.
There are 18 studios on Ostrich & Giraffe trails & their booking category is value villa. They are slightly smaller than the savanna view you booked & cost fewer points.

Alannah on chat has been very good at explaining why they cant and wont write something shes not supposed to.

Todd will argue with you that something doesn't exist when it does without explaining why its like that and then pretend to write it in to get you off chat.

Lavendar will tell you to call members services for just about any question you have.

Emma is fabulous and will write whatever you ask.

It's possible that that was part of the roll-out, yes.

Just got back from Saratoga Springs, 1-bedroom yesterday. Checked in Friday, and had put in room requests for building 1, rooms ..03 and ..45 on the 2nd and 3rd floor...with a secondary request for building 1 or 2 in Congress Park. I arrived at 2pm for checkin, did not do pre-check-in, and went to the front desk - I reaffirmed the room requests, and they confirmed I'd definitely be building 1 but the room wasn't ready, so they couldn't give me the number. I headed over to park at building 1, and by the time I pulled in to the parking space, I got the text confirming room 3145...building 1, 3rd floor, and one of my directly requested room numbers. I was unpacking in the room my 2:30pm. One more directly requested room number fulfilled!

We are at SSR now. Requested ground floor, building 9 or 10 near Paddock pool. Got ground floor at the far end of building 11. I guess it's better than 12, but it's a long walk to the pool or lobby, especially in the heat or rain. We rarely get our requests at SSR, we've probably had worse luck here than at any other resort.

That seems counterintuitive. Everything I’ve read suggests you should ask for an area, not a specific room. And I don’t want a specific room, any ground floor room in either of those buildings would have been fine.

It’s only SSR where I seem to have bad luck with requests. Every other resort, I usually get something pretty close to what I’ve requested. It’s really odd.

I've had member services tell me on multiple occasions that requests for specific rooms works better than broad requests. That has worked for me at Jambo House. I haven't tried it at Saratoga yet. Obviously we all understand that requests are just that and are not guaranteed.

That is my understanding as well, and would agree this is the case, only a request, as most times we have requested certain areas at boardwalk villas or polynesian (garden view), just never seemed to work out.

Try requesting a specific room number in the future.

I’ve done both and I have better luck when I ask for a range of rooms. Except for BWV where it feel like they go out of the way to give you the opposite of what you request.

That’s funny - we pretty much always get what we request at BWV (upper floor as far from the lobby as possible).
