Room Requests AKL

Hi, We are booked to stay in the AKL for 5 nights at the end of june, I have been hearing a few bad things about room requests being on a first come basis. We are a family of 4 our son is 18 & our Daughter 16 we have requested a room with a Queen & Bunk Beds, but our flight from the UK does not arrive untill 3pm so it is going to be close to 5PM before we get to the Hotel hardly first come!!
I know Disney cannot Guarantee Room requests but heres keeping my fingers crossed
Has anyone had experience of room requests good or bad

Welcome to the DIS. Make sure that your room request is listed in your reservation. If they can grant it they will.

Were doing the same thing right now with AKL room requests. First make sure to request what Savannah you'd prefer. There are 3 different ones and the animals vary by each. All 3 do have giraffes though. Like Arusha is the only one with Zebras and since my husband is a zebra fanatic we are of course, requesting to view that one. Also there are different trails for each savannah view. I'm iffy on those but know that there are at least 2 trails for the Arush view, and one is closer to the pool and food court than the other one is, so proximity to those thigns is alos something to decide on your list of importance in room location. Thanks for the info, I had spoken to disney reservations and they added our request, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.
I will give them another call as I was not aware you could request a prefered Savannah

I agree with noting the "necessities" as such, i.e non-smoking room, handicapped access, bunk beds, etc. ... I would avoid making the savannah view request in the same manner of import. I believe AKL will do everything possible to fill your requests but the Savannah view (everyone wanting the same rooms) is getting to be a hot button topic and if pushed improperly you may get your entire request list wiped out...JMO, though.

AKL has a lot of bunk bed rooms (we loved ours!), so you should be okay. Checking in at 5pm isn't really "late". I wouldn't worry too much.

I wouldn't worry either. I think you will be fine with your bunks, but if that's what's most important to you, I wouldn't request anything else.
