Room Request?

We just got back from a nice first trip home to SSR, but am confused and
a little disapointed.
Maybe someone can answer this.
I made our res. in Jan for this trip (Dec 4th-10th). I requested Downtown D.
view and non smoking room. We arrived about 6pm on the 4th and was
assigned a room with a view of the employee parking lot which is behind the tennis courts and it was a smoking optional room.
I thought I made our request early enough.
We could see the Epcot fireworks everynight, but still would have prefered a different view.
So can anyone enlighten me on who gets what room, view ect..
We stayed in 1 bedroom 2634.
Thanks and we did have a great time, no other complaints or drawbacks.

DVC has a system called "room ready". When you check-in, they look at rooms that are ready for occupancy and try to find one that meets at least one of your requests. They do not preassign rooms under this system. By checking in at 6pm, you basically got the leftovers not taken by those who checked in earlier.

I prefer the old system of preassigning rooms by date of reservation. You may want to let member services know about your situation. If enough members complain, maybe they will reconsider. Depending on the resort and occupancy levels, they do sometimes use the old system. My room at BWV last week was preassigned.

Thanks DebbieB,
next time I will make sure and make it there early instead of loafing
around in St Augustine like we did.

We arrive next Wednesday at 7:30 pm at MCO, so I'm expecting the worst when we go to check in. However, we visit often, so view won't be that big of a deal for us this trip. That said, I still think that the old system was much better and made more sense from a member advantage standpoint. If surveyed, I believe I will start mentioning that and maybe we'll see some changes.

Next Wednesday is when things should start getting their busiest at all WDW resorts. During high seasons I believe most of the resorts pre-assign rooms. I know they had our's preassigned last year and the year when we checked in.

Have fun.
