What do you think? Is it better to take my chances or fax a room request? We are staying at CBR first and later POR. Only a few short days to go before I could make a room request. What have you experiences been?

:p Last time we went i faxed to CSR and didn't get the Section i requested. Previous 4 times we went (3-CBR & 1 FW) i asked when i made the reservation and was given the section we requested. I guess my answer is it's a crap shoot but as with anything Disney it doesn't hurt to try!!!!!!!

You could be a good hike away from pool, food court area at either of those resorts. That would be my only concern.

I usually request to be near the main pool/food court area, however we do not alway's get what we ask for. I have received what I really wanted maybe 1/2 out of 35 times. They will note your request, but it is still first come first served....

It's more important to have your requests on your reservation record. A fax can just confirm them or make some alternate requests. I would call and have your requests added to your reservation. Then send a fax if you wish to confirm them or list alternates.

I agree with soccer mom. I stayed twice at CBR (before I knew about making requests) and both times were given a room in Barbados. It was such a haul to OPR that mugs were not useful. I think the thing to do is:
-research where you want to stay within a resort,
-make the request part of your ressie by calling back CRO,
-fax if feasible also.
But being educated on the resort layout can help tremendously. I got Tahiti at Poly no problem with the above strategy. At CSR I requested Cabanas 8A or 9B. At checkin the CM was getting all the paperwork together and I noticed she had "Casitas 4" as the room I was getting. I respectfully asked if there was anything available closer to the Dig Site and El Centro, as requested on my original ressie. She disappeared in back for a good five minutes, and came back with a room in Cabanas 9A with a free upgrade to water view. She told me it was one of her favorite rooms, and the location was fantastic. The view of the rest of the resort was spectacular, especially at night.
I guess the moral of the story is to not be afraid to ask at checkin. I'm glad I spoke up after walking past Casitas 4. It was so far from everywhere I wanted to be!!
I suggest either the site maps here or at www.wdwig.com; as well as the Passporter for deciding where your optimal location would be at a particular resort. Be an educated consumer, but be willing to "go with the flow". After all, you're on vacation!
