Room request for mobility issues. Do you really need to fax or call again?

I have read that some people say you must fax your request, but others say the resort doesn't like the fax system for requests and that you should call within 1 week of your stay. Others, still, say just make your request early and it will ride. What do you think really works best? I don't want to be a pain, but my main goal is to be as absolutely close to a bus stop as possible for mobility concern for my kiddo. She can ride around the big resort rather than walking here or there. (or wheel chairing here and there). I already have the request on the system. Is that good enough, or should I call just before we leave?

I always make my request ( first floor when at at a mod or value resort) when I make my reservation. I've never had it disappear.

Many of the resorts are not accepting faxes - if they get printed at all, they are thrown out. It was too difficult, time consuming and expensive for them to try to match up faced with people's reservations.
Calling the resort gets a call center, not directly to the resort.
And, when they did take requests by phone or fax, it was basically put where it would be if you had made the request in the first place.

1) Make the request when you first make your reservation, or add it as a request by calling the reservation line.

2) List whatever is most important to you first - room assigners have no other way than that to know what is important to you.

3) Limit the number of requests - the more things you are requesting, the less chance you have of getting any (too many things to match)

4) Be aware of you have 'competing' requests. Sometimes people have a request for close to bus stop, but then a location request or booked category that might put them far away.

5) Be aware of the booking categories - like Preferred location - for your resort. Sometimes people make requests for locations that are actually preferred category and then are puzzled when they don't get their requests met.

I'm not quite understanding what is meant here. If I book a Preferred room and am willing to pay the premium for it, should I or would I get it? Or did you mean people who want the preferred room location, but wish standard pricing?

People pay for standard and then request a location that would be preferred (next to the food court or right near buses) and then complain they didn't get their request

Yes - that was what I was talking about - paying for Standard and expecting locations that are actually preferred locations.

Many people do it and expect that being handicapped will give them access to preferred locations without paying for them. (they used to post about it more; have not seen it recently, but it used to happen a lot)

If you paid for preferred location, you should, of course get it.
