Room request at the Dolphin

Staying at the Dolphin in mid September. It will be the six of us and here are our preferences for the two rooms we need. I am SPG Platinum. In order of importance:

Connecting rooms
Balcony
Fireworks
Club level privileges

I have over 15000 points so I am willing to use my points and/or get a comp upgrade. We are booked right now with the $139 govt rate for 9/15 thru 9/21. We actually only need one of the rooms to have a balcony, but they must be connected. Any suggestions for getting the nicest and most upgraded room possible?

I believe as a Plat level you get an automatic upgrade to CL. So, go for the connecting room with balcony.

What is the preferred process for getting the best upgrade? Do I ask at check in, or do I try to contact the hotel directly. I seem to remember an earlier thread describing the process but I dont remember what it entailed. Any tips and suggestions would be great.

Call the Dolphin directly to make your request 1 407 934 4000. Ask for the room controler. Tell her what you need and give her your Plat SPG number. Ask what type of complimentary upgrade you can get as a Platinum. We have visited the Dolphin twice as Plat SPG and were upgraded to a suite both times. The first time we had a Jr. suite consisting of 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms but no balcony. The second time we received an upgrade to an executive suite. It was 2 enormous rooms, 2 bathrooms, a butlers pantry but no balcony. The suites at the Dolphin do not have balconies. Some of the suites at Swan do have balconies. If you really need a balcony you probably will need to book 2 connecting rooms. The complimentary suites at the Dolphin were fantastic even w/o a balcony! Hope this helps!
