I read a lot of threads here where people talk about problems with their room but they don't ask to switch rooms. Or they will post a lot about the resort grounds and amenities when recommending resort but not talk much about the room itself. For me, the room is important, even if I am not in it much. I want it to be spotless and I don't want anything to be outdated (like bathrooms) or showing wear ( carpets, furniture). Mold in a bathroom totally grosses me out. I can't relax in a room that is not fresh. It doesn't have to be luxury but I don't want it to be dingy or musty smelling or beat up. I wouldn't stay a minute in a room that had hair in the bathtub drain, mold in the shower or on the walls, wet spots on the carpet, musty smells, etc., all of which I have seen described here at one time or another. I know I'm picky but that's the point: I prefer a nice room above all else and usually try to book only new and/or recently refurbished rooms. I will happily walk 15 minutes to the main buildings as long as I have I have a nice, fresh room.

So which us more important to you? The look and feel of the room or the resort grounds and amenities?

Honestly, I take both into consideration when booking which is why 9/10 we stay at a deluxe resort. The rooms are larger, the landscaping beautiful and there is a variety of dining choices.

Both are equally important to me. And luckily I have not had to settle on either point, room quality or resort grounds/amenities, in 13 stays covering all 3 levels of WDW resorts.:thumbsup2

We've never had a problem with over 30+ visits since 1985. Maybe the worst was a burned out light bulb or a remote that needed batteries. :)

I have only stayed at the value resorts, but I have visited most of the other resorts and walked around and enjoyed their restaurants and outdoor area.

The mold, cleaning, and wear & tear are going to be issues at any hotel. I read where the GF was having mold issues behind their wallpaper and that is a fairly new resort with indoor room entrances. Having hair in the drain is reflective of the speed which is required to clean each room by Mousekeeping. Critters and mold are going to be more of an issue during the warmer months because it IS Florida after all.

Staying on-site at Disney with your room requests is going to be difficult because Disney manages their hotels different than the outside hotels...they remodel instead of selling to a lower-brand chain. I think your best guarantee for a fresh room is to look for new construction off-site. You just have to decide if you are willing to take the risk for a less-than-ideal room on Disney property. A lot can be fixed by day two though with a note and a good tip!
