Room only to package question re:adding dining

You can add dining to any discounted "room only" without having to add tickets it just becomes a room and dining package. I think you have to call to book it that way. I just booked a vacation using the summer room discount and added dining only to it last week. We always wait and buy our tickets when we get there.

This must be new. You used to have to buy at least a 1 day base ticket to add dining.

So you already have a room booked? To change it to a package they will cancel your existing reservation refund that money and you will have to pay for the room/dining package in full since you're past the 45 day mark.

I'm sure you know all that already but U wanted to be sure you weren't surprised when you called tomorrow. :goodvibes

Have a great trip!!!

WOW. I have never ever seen anyone post this. Not saying it isn't true, just that I have never seen anyone add dining to a room only unless it was booked with an AP rate or a DVC stay. Very odd. Are you 100% sure they didn't add a one-day ticket for everyone in your room? lol

I didnt think so, i was playing around on the disneyworld website. It looked like i could do a one day base ticket though.

That is correct that you only need a 1 day base ticket in order to get the DDP. For free dining, there is a minimum of a 2 day base ticket, but if you are paying for dining, it's just a 1 day ticket minimum :).

As stated above, a minimum 1 day base ticket is needed in order to get the DDP. There are a few exceptions, such as an AP holder who books an AP + Dine package, a DVC member staying on points, or you are renting points from a DVC member (and I also think the military offer allows for the DDP without adding tickets to the package). But other than those exceptions, a ticket purchase is required in order to get the dining plan.

I just booked a trip using the 15% off a value and the CM offered me the DDP. I didn't add tickets to the package.

If you don't mind me asking, did you have to put down a $200 deposit or just the one night deposit?

They changed it a couple years ago. You did used to HAVE to buy tickets to add dining which was so ridiculous. Now that rule only applies with the free dining promo.:)

I'm guessing the CM made a mistake and gave you wrong information because tickets have always been required to get the DDP (unless you're an AP holder, DVC member, or renting pts). I just went online to try to get a quote under the spring offer with the room + DDP without tickets and it doesn't even give you an option for the DDP unless tickets are added. It will quote a room only with the option to add tickets, but the DDP doesn't even show up as an option unless you add tickets to the room. I would check your reservation to see if a 1 day base ticket was added. Free dining requires a 2 day base ticket, but purchasing the DDP still requires a 1 day base for everyone in the room.

Thanks!:goodvibes

This is very interesting. I have posted in several threads regarding the dining plan and have never come across this before. I wonder why they don't make this option available on their website?:confused3 Seems like they would make a lot more money on the plan if people could buy their tickets elsewhere. You might want to double check your invoice just to be on the safe side. CMs make mistakes. Is this the first time you have booked this type of package or have you been doing it for the last couple of years?

Sorry to be so nosey.:goodvibes I'm just really intrigued with this whole situation. lol

That's okay. :) I booked the trip for my mother. I use the military discount when I go so this is the first time I have done it this way... I will go look at her invoice though, you all have me a little worried now lol. :goodvibes

Sorry to worry you, but I would rather find out if there is an error now, as opposed to later. Please update us with what you find out. Inquiring minds want to know!:rotfl:

That would explain it. When you're booking with a military discount you qualify for a ticketless package. It's just like people with an AP who can book a room and add the paid dining plan without tickets.

I am so interested in this too. Not only for myself, but for other friends/family members. I've never tried to add dining to a room only (other than an AP room only) but I could see us doing this in the future if it is an option
