I've always booked a package so I not sure about Room Only payment. I'm curious how a room only stay has to be paid off. After the deposit, can I wait and pay the rest off when I arrive, or do I need to make payments and pay it all off (like a package) before arrival?

Thanks! :ewok:

You can pay it all off before you arrive if you want or you can just pay it upon arrival.

I paid my balance at check in and used a combination of credit card and gift card. The only thing we personally missed getting with the package was the coupon for the arcade. Otherwise, the room-only was a good option for us. We also ordered our tickets from Undercover Tourist, and they worked perfectly, too.

Be aware that if you wait to pay it off until you arrive, they may charge your card before you show up at the resort. If you put a credit card down for on line check in sometimes they charge that card the remaining balance before you arrive at the resort.

Actually, it's always like that for me. When I check in, they tell me my credit card has already been charged, which is very convenient IMO. For me, that's one of the perks of online check in and having a credit card attached.

I don't like it. I usually don't want to have any charges against the card I put down. I pay everything off with Disney gift cards. So now I have to make sure my room is paid off a few days ahead of time.

It's still a fair warning though. I had that happen to me when they charged my debit card for my balance, when I had planned to pay with gift cards upon arrival. :(

I no longer attach a card to my reservation. And I typically just pay it off before I arrive to avoid just that.

Are you able to pay it off ahead of time with the gift cards?

Can you not apply those gift cards to your credit card once you arrive? I'm curious, because I thought people used their magicbands to pay for items and then payed off their credit cards at the end of the day with gift cards.

Does it work the same way?

I always pay for at least some of my room only stay with Chase/Disney rewards dollars and to save time and confusion I just call a few days before arrival and pay off however much I've accumulated on the card since the last trip.

You don't apply anything to the credit card.

Basically, the hotel holds the charges until they reach a certain amount and then they'll charge the credit card on file. You're welcome to pay the balances before they charge your card with GCs, but they won't hold the GCs in place of your credit card.

If the gift cards are Disney ones, the credit card company isn't likely to accept them as a form of payment.

Just to be clear, when you have a room only reservation, the balance owing on the reservation must be paid in full at the time of check in. You can pay it off in advance if you want, using credit card, debit, or gift cards. If you want to pay it off with gift cards on arrival, don't give them your credit card number for the online check in.

That's not the same thing as charging privileges after you have checked in. If you use your magic band to charge a purchase or a meal, that charge goes onto your resort account. When the account reaches or nears the preset limit, the credit card will be charged for that amount, and your room account is zeroed out. If you don't want your credit card charged, you need to go to the front desk and pay it off with your gift cards instead, BEFORE they automatically charge your card. You can get a print out of your charges at the front desk any day, to keep track of your spending.

Thanks for the clarification. Although I have my credit card attached to my MB, I tend to only use cash or I will just pull out my credit card to use when necessary.
