Room only question

well, sort of. but you can't get the DDP without a package which means no AP discount. that's assuming you're using an AP?

if you're getting an AAA discount, the only way to get DDP with it is to book the package through AAA. what you can't do is get the AAA discount and free dining when it's offered. but you can buy the DDP and still get the discount on the room portion.

more fundamentally however, 'converting' a room-only to a package really means canceling the room-only and booking the package (not necessarily in that order) and there's a fairly small but substantial chance that it won't be possible to do which will grow the longer you wait.

Brad has answered this 100% correct.

I'm a big fan of booking what you want the first time. Even if that means waiting a bit before making your booking. Of course I'd still book as early as I could based on my budget, the booking requirements and availability of rates for my travel time.

Why? Because every interaction you have with a reservations agent increases the chance of some human error in your reservation. It's that simple. Often times, on these very boards, someone's reservation will get all muxed up. And when you dig into it, the reservation has had eight to eleven changes in resort, package, or other options since the time it was originally booked.

This is really important I'm going to type it again -- Every CM who touches your reservation is another chance for something to go horribly wrong.

For me -- I generally book about 8 to 12 weeks before I travel maximum and I avoid travelling at peak times. If you are travelling on an AP discount or AAA discount or using a Disney supplied PIN or Postcard offer, you must usually book earlier than 8 to 12 weeks in order to even have something to pick from.

And it goes without saying then, that I can be extremely flexible in my resort choice and I don't have any MUST HAVE situations with regards to my room or resort choice.
