Room only/package at same resort questions...

We are doing a surprise trip for my son's b-day in January. We are doing two nights, room only, then our package starts at POR. We land at MCO at 7pm. I have requested a room in the Mansions. But, we're getting in fairly late, so I don't have huge expectations that we'll be put there, which is fine. I was wondering if it was possible to switch our room when our package starts if we're not thrilled with where we are.

I don't want to be a PITA guest, but we are staying 7 nights for our package and I'd love to get a great room for that time. Would it be unreasonable to request a room change?

Yes, you can request if there is availability, when you check in again for your package, if you can change rooms.

You can go to the front desk anytime after 7:00 am, when the computers roll over, to check back in for your package.

I had that happen last year, where I check in on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I always "link" my reservations, so I don't have to move when I switch over to my package the next day. The last three years, with the discounts, that Saturday is blacked out.

Last year, the CM told me if I didn't mind moving the next day, she had a fabulous room for me and it was right next door.

I didn't unpack that first night. Luckily, I was in a connecting room to the room that was available the next day. I left the connecting door on my side open, placed the DND sign on the door, and went up to the desk about 6:50 am. The computers rolled over at 7:00 am; I got my new KTTW card with the new room.

I opened the new room and connecting door, got my luggage and closed both doors.

I went from a riverview obstructed view room at POR, to a corner king bed room with a full view of the river - not 20 feet away from the river's edge. It was wonderful, considering it was also a solo trip, so the king bed was pretty cool.
