Room Noise (ie: Toilets)

Hello!

We just returned from WDW and stayed at POR. In the past we have stayed at Coronado, POFQ, ASSp (2) and have always had to endure the noise of the toilets throughout the evening but particularly in the early morning. (We're not early risers!)

We are returning in November. Have we just had bad luck or should we be requesting specific floors to avoid this noise?

We are planning to stay at the ASMu. Should I just bring ear plugs?

Thanks!

:D

We had the same problem at the AKL, but we could hear more than just flusing:mad: We solved the problem by vowing to never stay there again. It didn't matter what floor we were on (we asked to be moved to a higher floor...didn't help). No way do I ever want to hear the sound of someone else in another room pottying again! It was gross!!!

I am guessing that the top floor would have less toilet noise, but I have still heard toilets below me.

At least at the All Stars the toilets seem really noisy. The flush mechanism employs a pressurized water chamber to assist in accomplishing the flush using the reduced now standard 1.3 gallon water usage limit.

An older toilet uses gravity to empty the tank and do the flush, this is generally quieter than the pressurized system of newer toilets.

Do any of the resorts have old styled toilet tanks mounted high on the wall? For these the gravity flow can give just as much flushing force as the pressurized systems.

We've stayed at the All Star Resorts many times and while I haven't had flushing as a problem, the walls are so thin that I can hear people in the next room. We've had to change rooms due to crying babies. We're staying at the AKL for part of our upcoming trip and from the above post, I'm worried about noise. I thought it wouldn't be a problem at a deluxe resort!!

The noisiest toilets HAVE to be at AS's.

I've stayed at the AKL twice now and never was bothered by the toilets, although I will admit that I did hear flushing every now and then--but it was faint.

The BW Villas are by far the quietest of all. You don't hear a peep.

Never heard toilets at GF, BWI, YC, BC, BCV, Polynesian.

Heard them at POFQ, but no where near as loud as All Stars.

There's nothing quiet about the studios at BWV - the walls are paper thin. We hear peoples wake up calls, talking, televisions. All of our stays have been the same.

I think it boils down to when the resorts were built. The older ones tend to be a little more solid, IMHO. No offense, because I like some of them very much but the new resorts were kind of built on what I've heard referred to as "drunk weekend". That isn't to say that there are any safety concerns or anything like that - just cheaper building materials that aren't as soundproof as the older resorts.

I don't recall any noise at CSR, but the place seems pretty empty while we were there.

We thought the same thing, but unfortunately, we could hear EVERYTHING going on in the bathrooms above/around us at the AKL:( We have stayed there twice. The 1st time was last Nov., and the resort was empty...we didn't hear anything, but, then again, the rooms next to us seemed to be empty...maybe the rooms above us were empty as well. We loved the resort (it's so pretty!), so we decided to stay there again for 2 nights this Feb. The resort was pretty full on that trip, and boy could we hear the pottying/toilets! It was BAD! They need to put some soundproofing in that resort. To hear the turbo-toilets is one thing, but to actually hear people using the turbo toilets is quite another:rolleyes: As beautiful as the AKL is, we will never stay there again because of this. Hopefully you are going during a not-busy time, so you may not have this problem.

We've stayed at All Stars several times and to be honest, I have never noticed the noise from other toilets. But after reading so many posts about this subject, I took particular note on one of our trips where we stayed at ASMu and then moved to AKL. The toilets were exactly the same -- and they never bothered me at either resort. So obviously the newer toilets have been used in the newer hotels, regardless of whether the hotel is deluxe or value.

Those toilets will keep you up late (with everyone returning form the parks, etc)

The first time we stayed at ASMo I didn't sleep well at all. On our AKL trip, our son had a little cold. I brought our humdifier along. What a difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We did not hear a peep! And we were above the lobby! After that I packed it for all of our trips. Even at the AS (2 more trips) we slept soooooo good! I don't worry about noise any more.

It may seem like a lot to drag a humidifier with you, but it doesn't take up that much room in the suitcase. You can even put little things inside of it. You will be wishing you had it when it's going on 2 am and you can't sleep! Also, if someone develops a cold and can't sleep the humidifier will help them be able to sleep and everyone else in the room!

You haven't heard a noisy toilet until you cruise on the Disney Cruise Boat. Those are some loud toilets:) Don't get me wrong, I would sacrafice my ear drums & do it again, anytime!!

For our next trip, we are planning on packing a small fan that sits on a night stand. My whole family sleeps with a ceiling fan on. Hopefully the humming will drown out the other guests at the Dolphin!!

I'm use to hearing toilets flushing, showers turning on, people walking in the hallways ... I've had this happen in most hotels that I've stayed at. However... I don't think I'd want to hear more than just flushing ... that's just gross!! Now I'm a little worried... I hope this doesn't happen to us on our trip... :(

That is why we request top floor in the mods, didn't hear anything at the Contemp.

We have a strict rule at our house - yellow let it mellow, no FLUSHING in the middle of the night! Sometimes we visit with friends and I'm always reminding the kids - no flushing at 2AM, that is just craziness!

We usually leave on the air conditioner during the night set to a comfortable temperature. The steady noise of that usually drowns out any other noise. I've never heard anything but flushing toilets at POR. At CBR we had a couple fighting next to us on our last day. Thankfully, it was the last day. Who wants to hear that?

I noticed the toilets being loud in ASMo, but I never heard anyone using the potty!! Now, the next time I go, I'll probably be constantly thinking about it!
