I am trying to understand post where air mattresses are brought (some left in lockers for next visit) to sleep more in a Studio/1BR and other post that reads that if you are caught sleeping more than the room is designed you are put in "DVC jail".
In looking at the various room layouts (beds/couches and showers), how, when, and is it permissible to bring an air mattress in a room to sleep more?

I know all Studios only have one shower, however, does any one bedroom (lock off or not) have multiple showers? I am sure I should, but I am unable to determine this by looking at the room layout maps.

Generally, I think people aren't busting occupancy, they're adding a sleep surface.

There are one or two unit types that sleep one more than they have sleep surface for. (BWV maybe?) In other cases, you have a room that sleeps 4 on two queens and someone wants a separate sleep surface. Still 4 in room, two simply are not sharing a bed.

Most 1 bedrooms will allow you to book 5 people in the room. I may be wrong but I think the only exception is a value 1 bedroom at AKV. But not all have beds for the 5th person. AKV, BLT, VGF and OKW are the only 1 bedrooms that have bed for the 5th person.

Kidani and BLT 1 bedrooms have 2 bathrooms.

We own at BCV and there are beds for 4, but we can book 5 in a 1 bedroom. We bought an air mattress because my DDs no longer like to share a bed.

The following 1BRs at WDW allow 5 but have only sleeping spaces for four and if you have a fifth you must provide your own bedding for the fifth because there are no cots or rollaway beds offered: Boardwalk Villas (BWV), Beach Club Villas (BCV), Saratoga Springs Resort Villas (SSR), and Villas at Wilderness Lodge (VWL).

The following 1BRs have sleeping places for four and do not allow a fifth: value 1BRs at Animal Kingdom Villas (AKV) (it is a small number of rooms that also happen to be quite small, the factor that makes them value, which are only at Jambo).

The following 1BRs allow and have sleeping places for five: Villas at Grand Floridian (VGF; murphy bed that pulls down from cabinet in front of TV in living room); AKV standard and savanna view rooms at both Jambo and Kidani, Bay Lake Tower (BLT), and Old Key West (OKW), all of which have a pull-out chair in living room (only AKV Kidani and BLT also have a second bathroom with tub and shower).

The following studios have or will soon have a murphy bed that pulls down from the cabinet in front of the TV to allow and sleep five: VGF (part of original design), VWL (redesign completed), BWV (about 80% of the rooms are completed and all will likely have the new arrangement in a few months); BCV (rehab just starting and will continue probably at least through much of the year; available rooms currently sleep four).

The following studios allow and sleep four and nothing has been mentioned about changing any of them to five: SSR, BLT, AKV (all booking categories at AKV).

Usually they are just expanding the arrangement options, not occupancy.

Most DVC 1BR's only have one shower.

We use air mattresses as others have posted, to give everyone their own sleeping area.

Have you read through this pinned post yet? http://disboards.com/threads/☆-★-☆-★-the-dvc-information-center-★-☆-★-☆.3436039/

It contains links to occupancy limits and floorplans for every room type available at each resort.

Yes, more than once.

That is why I made this post based on other's post to clarify for me truly how many others have slept more in a Studio/1 BR than designed without being put in "DVC jail". Unless someone tells me otherwise, if a room is designed, for example, 5; there is something to sleep on for all 5. I assumed families that brought an air mattress was done to sleep more, not to take the place of the amenities provided. Regarding the showers, like I said I am sure I should be able to tell by the listed floor plans but I needed to clarify if any properties 1 BR have multiple places to get clean.

I simply want to be safe than sorry in my plans (waiting on my initial closing).

Thanks

So then you got the information that at the older DVC resorts they do allow you to book 5 into a 1BR or 9 into a 2BR but they only actually have sleeping spaces for 4 or 8? You'll see that in the online booking tool. That is another reason that people will bring an air matress. But, for example, not everyone wants their daughter and son to share the pull out or they may have 2 kids that just can't sleep well together so they'll bring the bed even if they are within the occupancy.

Yes but the mistake you are making is assuming the 1 bedrooms were designed for 5 they were not. The original DVC'S up to SSR the 1 bedrooms were designed for 4. After that with BLT and AKV DVC built larger villas with the 1 bedrooms designed for 5 and started to allow 5 in all 1 bedrooms but did not provide a sleeping space for the 5th in the older 1 bedrooms. So people started bringing air mattresses. Studios until VGF were all designed for 4 but some have been modified.

The older 1 bedrooms ar quite small and the lounge area does not have a lot of floor space. Fitting an air mattress will be tight. We had a 1 bedroom booked for 3 at BWV and my older son decided to join us so we cancelled and booked a 2 bedroom at SSR for this reason but we have kept the 1 bedroom at AKV and at VGF as we feel those are big enough for 4.

In any case with a party bigger than 5 you will need a 2 bedroom there is no way around that.

If you google online there are some very good floor plans which will show you exactly how many bathrooms each unit has.

Only BLT and AKV-KV have an extra bathroom just off the entrance to the villa. So the one bedroom there will have two full bathrooms. The two bedroom will have three full bathrooms. All the rest have one bathroom in one bedrooms, two bathrooms in two bedrooms. In some they have split the bathroom and added a standing shower, but there is still only one toilet.
