Room Key Holder for Kids

I'm trying to put together a bag of goodies for our kids when we get to our room. How do kids carry around their keys? Our kids are 6 and 5 so we will turn off charging privledges. Our kids love to take turns to open the room door. It would be so cool to them to carry their own keys. I thought that I had read somewhere that Guest Services will punch a hole in the key so it can go on a key chain. We then hang it on a Lanyard, right?? Or is the Landyard just for pin trading? (So sorry, I don't know much about how the pin trading works) Is there someplace where I can buy one of these before we go? I looked at DisneyDirect.com for Landyard, but did not find anything. Would like to get a Mickey one and a Princess one. Any ideas??

Thanks

You could buy a plain one at Wal-mart, or if you are lucky find one at a Disney store....

Yes, punching a hole takes away ANY charging privileges...My two always argue about whose turn it is to open the door.. They simply used my key though, as I did not like the idea of them with theirs... :goodvibes

I was just in Orlando on business and the Disney store in the airport had a huge selection of lanyards. I picked up two for my kids - Tinkerbell and Incredibles. If you are flying to Orlando, you may be able to get one there.

I ended up buying one of the water proof ID holder clam shells they have at Castaway Cay. I noticed they also have them on the ship as well as in the parks. It works really well, its sealed so you dont have to worry about something falling out, water proof, and its also opaque so people cant see other things you may have inside like money etc. Has a string you wear it around your neck. Worked well for us, may want to give it a thought.

On Princess, they would punch it for us to clip onto our lanyards.
Not so on DCL?
Rats, how inconvenient!

So if you punch a hole in it, you cannot use it for charging priviliges?

Also, the lanyards....My kids have them with all their pins attached to it. At the bottom there is a little plastic card. Does Disney sell the clear plastic holder so the kids can place their card in it to hang from the lanyard so you don't have to punch a hole in it?
Thanks :)

Yes, that is right Corryn, once they punch a hole, it is not able to charge anything... Good idea if the kids are carrying their own (in case of loss)

I am not at all sure of your second question... Sorry.. :goodvibes

Corryn,

We are just back from the Wonder and yes there are clear plastic holders you can buy at Guest Services. They are very cute with the DCL logo on the lanyard.

I noticed on our receipts from WDW, you can contact their mail service and order items from the parks that you may have missed, forgotten, etc, during your visit. This info may help you find the lanyards you are looking for. The email is

WDW.mail.order@disneyworld.com
or call
407 363 6200

Give them as much info as possible about the item you are looking for-description, price, store found in, etc. The lanyards are all over the parks and in the stores, but you could say from

World of Disney Store at Downtown Disney
That you want to Mickey and Princess Pin Trading lanyards that hold the cards on the end and you aren't sure of the price. They will charge you the actual price plus shipping.

Hope this helps

Yes, you can still open your stateroom if the hole is not punched on the magnetic strip. All of my girls had their's punched - way too much temptation IMO for charging on the ship. My girls were 13, 11, 9, & 6 so the older 3 liked to go to the movies on their own and up for ice cream. We had connecting rooms and they let themselves into theirs all the time with the punched out cards.

There were lanyards on the ship that had a holder for the card so that you didn't have to punch it.

I punched my own cards and had no problems charging. I went to guest services for a statement and they accidentally printed a new card. They then punched that card for me since I was carrying it on a lanyard. I did not have problems charging to the card at any point.

We did not let our kids carry their own cards, but we gave their cards to them when it was time to open the door. They got a huge charge out of that.

I guess I always thought this was the reason people always mentioned packing duct tape. A couple of loops around Timmy's ribs, and that card is going NOplace... :rotfl2:

ROTFL!

No, the duct tape is for when you want to leave little Jimmy in your room after the Club closes and you still want to party. Strap him down to the upper bunk, and no more worries! LOL!

No, Sorry, the Duct Tape is for DW to tape my hands to keep me from grabbing the card to buy more Disney souvenirs!! Not to mention me keeping DW from buying more pins :teeth: :rotfl: :teeth:

I actually tried this with my little sister when we were on vacation, and I was much younger. It worked like a charm until it was time to let her out. Boy did I ever get in trouble. :goodvibes
I always use one of the clear pouches when I take my DD 9 to WDW. She likes to carry her own stuff. I have never had a problem.

Last year we got one of the DCL lanyards with the clear card holder on the ship and then took off the holder as the card had to be taken out of it to open the door. Instead we put the hook through the hole punched so DD couldn't charge anything. She loved it and so did we,

Kat
