I have a few questions regarding the room key charges....

1st- Are the charges squared up upon checkout? Meaning if I give them an imprint of my Visa- do they "hold" the $500.00 amount as a pending purchase, and then when I pay it with say- Disney Dollars, they release the $$$....

2nd- is there a way to give them Disney Dollars, or cash up front, and use that as the charge? In a way the same as Visa- only without it?

3rd- Can the charge key be used say- at Chef Mickey's?

4th- lets say I lose my charge key....how do they cancel the charge so if someone finds it they can't use my charge? Any sort of identification asked for upon charging?

Okay- thats it for now....I'm new to WDW and originally was planning on staying offsite, but just booked ASM, so now these new questions arrise..

Thanks

Brandy

What DisneyJoe said, except that they are getting pretty good about checking the signatures on the back of the card vs. the actual one signed when charging. And, yes, if you lose it, tell guest services right away. They'll cancel the charging priviledges and you can get a new one when you return to your hotel.

This is how it has worked when we have done it

1. Yes, it is held until you checkout. However, if you should go over $500, they will charge the $500 to your credit card and start over again.

2. I have read of people on the boards doing just that - giving money up front toward the charges. I have never done this.

3. Yes, it can be used at all the theme parks and Disney resorts. I don't think it can be used at Downtown Disney stores, although I think I charged meals at the Disney Quest restaurant.

4. Not sure on that one...I have never been asked for any identification when using it. I would hope they could disable the function if you reported it lost, but I don't know.

Now that I have typed this, I see that Disney joe has already answered. I have never been asked for a room number when using my resort charge that I can recall.

1) yes. charges are squared on checkout

They usually tell you the limit. If you reach that limit, they will process the charges and issue a new limit, by getting a new approval for the new limit. This can happen before you check out. Put the Disney Dollars down when you check in and they can credit your account and you can charge against it until that amount is used up.
